soapdragon
Is it me or is the media getting a bit uppy? I listen to Classic FM a lot and the composers seem to have 'gone upmarket'! No longer Ralph Vaughn Williams but Rafe, not Pachelbel (Pro Pashelbel) but now pronounced Packlebel, not The Simon Bolivar Orchestra but Seemon Bolivar and several more that I can call to mind right now! Saw a wildlife prog on BBC recently on The Himaaalias (what happened to the Himalayas!) I have taken to shouting at the radio every time Classic FM (or Classics Again as YS calls it) re names their composers! I am too old to change Sorry about the rant but its been niggling me for a while; now I've got it off my chest I'm off for a lie down in a darkened room and sooooo looking forward to it! LolaLayla
Also (and maybe I am being really stupid here) what has happened to Basle in Switzerland. It now seems to be Basel
Cinnamon
L'Occiatane has confused me lately. We have always said it as it is spelt, as the girls in the shop do too, but according to a TV ad I just saw its actually said L'ossytan. Think I might just go to Crabtree & Evelyn - much easier. Ain't Nobody Here
One that irritates me is "mischievous" - why do people often say miss-CHEEVY-us rather than MISS-chiv-us? There isn't an extra 'i' in the word. Not quite the same as the above examples but I needed to get that off my chest .
soapdragon
I have just watched University Challenge and Paxo insisted on calling Aberystwyth (sp? sorry!) Aberastwyth........ is he correct

Peaches
Sometime when I wasn't paying attention the word decade (dek-ade) started to be pronounced "decayed". Fun topic!

soapdragon
I think that language does evolve .... however its a bit odd when something that you have spent the last 'odd' years calling X suddenly changes to Y for apparent reason!
