Chucky Mama
I would not have believed this was true if I had not seen this myself. Last night ES was looking to book a flight (£400 ish). The price was good and he went to book last night as prices are going up. His card didn't go through and as it was late he left it until today. Today when he looked it had gone up by £200! He was gutted as it meant he couldn't afford to travel. However he then remembered a friend telling him that the cookies on your computer tell the company that you are interested in certain flights. The company then wacks the price up next time you look and makes you not only panic but also book the more expensive price immediately thinking they are going to go up further. He went on to my computer and lo and behold, the price was the same as last night So the moral of the story is to keep clearing your cookies when looking at quotes

Patricia W
Yes, I found this out last year when booking for Australia. In the end I went by a different airline
The Dogmother
What a stinking, rotten trick!!!!
Blackrocksrock
It is a rotton trick and usually also gives you another bit "last 2 tickets at this price" - that is so wrong as I have booked long after that and they had plenty seats at the same price. Always get rid of the cookies.
WitchHazel
Surely this must breach some consumer law or other?
Grandmashazzie
Goodness I didn't think that would happen. . .disgraceful.
Ain't Nobody Here
What a horrible, unscrupulous trick . I've booked 2 sets of flights recently. I think I might have booked them quickly enough not to have fallen foul of that but can't be sure .
chickencam
Thanks for the warning, I have looked at flight prices a lot recently, will be careful of this in the future, luckily each time I have booked recently the price hasn't moved. Lavenders_Blue
Good grief! Thankfully I rarely fly, but will probably be booking a flight later this year so I'll bear this in mind. Thanks for the heads up!
Jules.
Thanks for the heads up from me too. Hubby is currently looking for flights to visit his dad who lives in France so I've passed the message onto him too.

Valkyrie
I use Hitman Pro - it gets rid of malicious software and an unbelievable amount of cookies that lurk. I use it with other good antivirus protection. You can have a free trial for a month. I did and now I have it for a year - think it was about £17 and sorted out loads of problems that the normal antivirus misses. You can also do a 3 year deal with them. Princess Leia
Amazon used to do something similar. If you saw something you liked and add it to your "wishlist", when you go back to the item later, the price has mysteriously gone up... The Dogmother
I use Chrome in incognito mode, this wipes any cookies when you close it.
Daphne
DM - I've just checked Incognito and I think it only wipes your Chrome history, it doesn't wipe anything from the sites you visit, so they still have a record, but I might be wrong as I don't fully understand it
The Dogmother
This is what it says when you open an incognito tab: You've gone incognito. Pages you view in incognito tabs won't stick around in your browser's history, cookies or search history after you've closed all of your incognito tabs. Any files you download or bookmarks you create will be kept. However, you aren't invisible. Going incognito doesn't hide your browsing from your employer, your internet service provider or the websites you visit. Learn more about incognito browsing. Because Google Chrome does not control how extensions handle your personal data, all extensions have been disabled for incognito windows. You can re-enable them individually in the extensions manager.
Ain't Nobody Here
I use Chrome and hadn't even noticed "incognito" . Thanks for the tip!
The Dogmother
If you don't use incognito mode, then there's a handy extension that you can download called Click and Clean (for Chrome) which will close your browser securely and allows you to delete any history and cookies.
