Space Chick
Can't take a chicken to show and tell, just incase it has bird flu http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/government-minister-lauds-health-and-safety-rules-as-over-the-top-after-girl-stopped-from-bringing-pet-chicken-to-show-and-tell-9271956.html
Luvachicken
How ridiculous. What about these mobile farms that come to schools ? And the places that lend incubators to schools so they can watch the eggs hatch into chicks ? Next they'll be banning the children themselves for all the germs they have
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh for goodness sake, that's ridiculous . My mum fell at home a week ago. The carer wasn't allowed to help her up. None of them are. She basically verbally encouraged her to crawl to her bed and pull herself up. Luckily mum wasn't hurt and managed to get up but I hate to think what would happen if she had a bad fall. Luckily I live close by - I'm happy to lift her up . I know it's all about damage to carers' backs and being sued but it just seems we can't help anybody in society any more without breaking the law or risking being sued . Beantree
What is far more likely is that the virus will fall from the sky from migrating geese and ducks, so I suppose the playground should be emptied and everyone fitted with biological masks during these periods. Willow
What is really annoying is that typically the stupid injunctions are made by those with no expert knowledge of H&S (and the giveaway is the stupidity of what they are trying to ban, every H&S professional I've worked with has been very practical about how to apply the legislation sensibly). The carer not being allowed to help lift an adult is a little different, frustrating as that is they can really damage their backs lifting people repeatedly but we need to find some middle ground. The Dogmother
What a load of utter garbage! I remember taking a couple of our birds into school when Rosie was little, and they were learning about where food comes from... they have also been into Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and a local old folks' home! Valkyrie
OH MY GOODNESS OH MY GOODNESS OH MY GOODNESS!!! We are all going to get bird flu at the shows!!! PANIC!!! Really that is so stupid that it makes you want to scream!!! DD took our Mini to a show and tell at her church. They all loved her - the chicken that is. Some schools hatch chickens - all part of a good learning process.
