Grandmashazzie
Not done it yet,but will at weekend when ED daughter home.Sad to read that the co founder died in a diving accident in America.Great to see everyone get behind it.
Olly
Sorry, but I don't get it. Why don't people just donate to charity - what's the bucket of water got to do with it?
Angie
I view it as actions speak louder than words and from the rich and famous to the lowest you are all doing the same challenge, quite humbling really. The only difference between each and everyone doing it is the size of their bank balance and how much they donate. I'm willing to be drenched and cold with the best of them. Sportsmen , statesmen , sportswomen , film stars etc....
Egluntyne
Count me out. I refuse to be bullied into anything by these facebook challenges. Whilst it is a worthwhile cause, I will decide where my charitable donations go. From what I've read, people are doing the challenge to avoid making a donation. Ain't Nobody Here
I've been nominated twice . I declined as I'm struggling to get over a cold but did pay a "fine" as a donation. My family are unenthusiastic about the whole phenomenon so I'd have struggled to get anyone to chuck water over me anyway .
Grandmashazzie
I think it's just a bit of light hearted fun.I do agree most of us have charities we support and do,though I think for a lot of the young ones they perhaps haven't given much thought to charities. The money will go to a good cause so I'm all for it. Eggasperated
I'm sorry but I think it's a disaster waiting to happen, in fact they are linking the death of a teenager in my area to the ice bucket challenge.
LolaLayla
I know DD and a lot of friends have done it but I do wonder how many donations have come from the ones I know of In only one instance was there a link to donate. I think it has become a bit of a dare, with creativity thrown in to have the most interesting video, which could be dangerous. I know that makes me sound a bit of a party pooper but as others have said you don't need to go to such lengths to get a donation. I feel the FB thing is almost like a chain letter now. bluekarin
I think the whole idea of having a bucket of ice water thrown over you is to give you an idea of what ALS feels like. I think it has got a bit confusing as some people are saying text ALS to 101 in order to donate! In principle, the idea is a great one. But then, I haven't been nominated yet. Hope not to be either. But if I am, I will do it and donate to the UK version of the charity
Leicester_H
The idea is to raise awareness of the charity and raise money. I saw many videos of the challenge before knowing which charity it was for - so not great on the awareness front! (but maybe that's just me?) Olly
I'm glad it's not just me ... I Googled it, and the message seems to be you pay less money if you do the challenge, if you opt not to do it then you pay a 'fine' by donating more. I think Egluntyne put it perfectly above. I have a charity budget, I subscribe to one particular charity and I make other ad-hoc donations each month but I am not going to be mugged into donating whether it's by someone dressed up in a bear costume, or someone 'daring' me to do something ... and don't get me started on the 'chuggers' I regularly pass on my way to the station each night! patsylabrador
....but despite everything I hope it isn't too awful for you. It's a soggy day but still quite warm. Good Luck.
chickencam
I agree with the chain letter reference, I too donate to charity and will sponsor people from time to time, but I like to choose where my money goes. My ED has been nominated.

PurpleTree
I'm fed up with it filling my FB timeline now & I didn't actually know what it was for until a few days ago. I read the Wikipedia page on it earlier and it seems things along these lines have been going around for a few years for various causes. It also started out that you should donate or tip water over yourself. I did see a good one earlier by one of our local Explorer Scouts, he'd made a whole story video with backing music and ended it with showing his mobile texting his donation. WitchHazel
Plus it is a horrid waste of water when so many are going without Matt Damon , who founded Water.org to raise awareness of the number of people in the world without access to clean water, was nominated. He didn't do it wthin the 24 hours, so he is donating. His video explains that he was finding it difficult becaue he couldn't condone the waste of clean drinking water...so he decided to do it using water from the toilet bowls in his house. He also explained that the water from his toilet bowl was cleaner than the water a lot of the people in the world get to drink, so he was using it as an opportunty to raise awareness about that too. I've seen a couple of other good videos of people not dowsing themselves: Patrick Stewart did a video of him writing a cheque, and then having a whisky and ice. Charlie Sheen poured a bucket of money over himself (donating the money), to remind people that it was about raising money.

Chucky Mama
Hmm, jury is out here re this. I take issue with those dousing themselves in water and posting it on Facebook with no reference whatsover of donating any money - defeats the object. There is now also footage of a 'youth' plunging a puppy head first into a bucket of water, a small child swearing, a homeless man being soaked and people complaining about the charity using animals for experimentation. As usual a good idea going a bit pear shaped. If I get nominated (I hope I don't). I will donate something to Water Aid (some people don't have the luxury of endless water to chuck around the place) and the ALS charity if I feel that I want to participate in some way. Ain't Nobody Here
My nephew works on a fishing boat off the north west coast - he did the challenge on the boat then jumped into the sea . I'm hoping they went back for him . I really don't like that one of the small girl swearing .
Lavenders_Blue
I have been nominated for this and I have ignored it. I completely agree that it's basically bullying/peer pressure and I refuse to be a part of that. Sorry, I forgot who it was who said that they want to choose which charities to donate to and when, but this is exactly how I feel. I also refused to take part in the no make up selfies that went round Facebook a while back. Nope I'm not a party pooper, I just refuse to be pressured into giving money to a particular cause just because everyone else is doing it. PurpleTree
My 9 yr old son has just been nominated by one of his school friends, I very much doubt he even knows what it is, so don't think I'll bother telling him about it. The same friend has nominated my husband, think he'll be ignoring it. As others have said we donate to charities of our choosing and a lot of our time (particularly my husbands) goes to Scouting, so we're not going to be pressured in to doing this just because it's the latest craze.
