Alis girls
I have to be in the mood for a good banter but in my job you have to be Queen of the quick repartee. My 2 nursing colleagues arent keen on it esp if its male pts getting a little frisky I should be so lucky but love a quick banter. Today a large gentleman (and I mean humongous) in his 50's said to me " I think I need to get a wife" and looked at me - to which I replied "dont look at me I'm already hitched". I find Jewish humour very funny, dry but often sending themselves up. So any Kings and Queens of banter out there?
chickencam
It is hard when you are thrown in with people who don't get banter. Myself and OH work in a small firm with about 20 people, most of us use a lot of banter with each other and it lightens the mood on a stressful busy day. There are a couple of people though who just don't get it. My family and his both banter a lot too. My ED had a few awkward moments when she started uni with a lot of serious Home Counties people, but they are used to her now.
The Dogmother
I do banter too, most of the time.
Ain't Nobody Here
I have a new colleague who is a master at banter - we spend most of our time bantering (is that a word ?) and I love it, it improves my working day no end .
Snowy
Me too Ali, I think as a nurse it is something you quickly get used to!
patsylabrador
No, I'm hopeless. I enjoy a bit of witty repartee and am always up for a laugh, I love laughing and clever people. But I don't have the patience for unending banter especially if it's just boorishness being passed off as banter. It especially annoys me if I'm trying to make a serious point and keep getting interrupted by someone making what they think are funny comments. That makes me sound very uptight I know but I don't think I am. Grumpy? - possibly yes.

Lewis
I've been trying to work out if you're good at banter or if you have good banter [with people]? Either way, I think so yeah
Valkyrie
Dunno - is it light flirting? Because a little of that goes a long way. Too much and they get a bit OTT. Used to see a couple of blokes walking around during their lunch times at the same time as I'd be on a walk. We'd acknowledge each other and when we changed routes and still saw each other - they were always in the opposite direction though - it warranted a little exchange as it was quite funny. Then it got to really funny when I spotted them at the ice cream van and we had a big laugh about that. Wouldn't say I'm good at it. Just probably easier for a quick exchange with strangers that is pleasant without getting too overly friendly. When I'm in a crowd I'm usually quiet because I never think of anything quick enough.
