Chickabee
Well here they are. I never dreamt it would work. The chicks started to hatch yesterday, there's one left to hatch. Mum is very proud and happy to be eating waxworms with her babies Edited August 19, 2015 by Guest

Chickabee
Very sadly, the last born has just died . I helped her all the time, helped her out of her egg and managed to feed her even when she wasn't interested. It just wasn't to be

Cat tails
Still, the hatching rate is great! Hope the other doodles all make it.
Purplemaniacs
Sorry to hear that, but you did everything you could. As you say it wasn't meant to be. Chrissie
WitchHazel
Sorry to hear about the last one... well done on all the others. I presume you have to feed them on crumb that doesn't have coccidiostat as part of the mix, like you do with ducks and geese?
Chickabee
It didn't actually say in the info I had, but I am anyway

Chickabee
We disturbed a moorhens nest whilst cleaning our pond. They didn't come back for 24 hours, so I put the eggs under my broody Peking frizzle. It's hard work as they need to be fed insects for a while until they start to feed themselves. They are just starting to do this. Dazzle loves it, as she gets live waxworms too. Has even had tug of war with a chick over one
Cat tails
How are the moorhens doing? Still going strong?
Chickabee
We are down to four unfortunately due to an accident. They're doing well and should be ready to leave home soon. I'm away at mo, but will get photos when I get home
Chickabee
This is one of the 4, 5 week old chicks. I've let them out for the first time today. Dazzle is going frantic. They keep coming back to her, but have explored the stream. They don't like humans, which is great

Chickabee
They love water and make a great deal of mess playing in it. You can see by state of the outside of the cat/nesting box
