Luvachicken
I was reading some tips about lice and it said you could dust a chicken with DE in a bag. Basically you put some DE into a bin bag, pop the chicken in so that its head pops out of the top, and then kind of squidge the bag so the dust gets all over the chicken. I just wondered if any of you do it this way or think it's a good idea ?
mullethunter
Sorry - no idea! Just such a funny mental image. I think it would work with mine because if I somehow managed to get them into the bag they'd be scrabbling about in such a flappy panic the DE would definitely get everywhere! emmalou
Well I make chicken in a bag and add spices...can't be much different? No seriously I cannot imagine getting a chicken in a bag to DE them. I normally just DE their nest boxes and dust baths which is good enough. Think it would panic them too much in a bag and a little bit cruel. As for Babs, I have never managed to pick her up so would certainly disapprove of that idea. Blackrocksrock
LOL never tried it, always use a spot on when they are not laying , never have problems, and dust the house every week.
Egluntyne
I think it is a bad idea asthey will be inhaling the powder. Not good for them.
Cat tails
I think some folks here also think DE is bad for chickens to be dusted in? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Luvachicken
I think some folks here also think DE is bad for chickens to be dusted in? Correct me if I'm wrong. I thought that but the vet I saw said there was nothing wrong with it So I've used it for now as I have nothing else, as she said she saw one on Chloe. mullethunter
As you said at the start, their head pokes out of the bag so they shouldn't inhale any.
Lewis
I wouldn't pop them in a bin bag, just leave Diatom in their dust bath or pop them in a tub trug to do the same.

I might just have to get them a nice dustbath that I can get to instead of one of their craters that I can't quite reach.
