Laura007
i have been asked to do a wedding reading, has anyone done one? or any ideas on readings suitable for a registry office service.(no religious stuff)
craftyhunnypie
Nice Poems of love are good - There is one by Mark Twain that my sister had. But if you ask at the registry office, they should have a booklet of readings for you to take & choose from. You can always write your own poem. Snowy
I did one for my Dad and Step Mum's wedding a couple of years ago. When I get home from work I'll see if I can find it.

Popcorn
We had two really lovely readings for our civil ceremony Laura. The best book we found was called, 'Wedding readings and Vows' from Confetti. co. uk and the other ones were 'The Language of Marriage' and 'The Language of Brides' from Blue Mountain.com. Worth a look anyway.
theherd123
Its not appropriate but this makes me giggle! I wanna be your vacuum cleaner Breathing in your dust, I wanna be your Ford Cortina I will never rust, If you like your coffee hot Let me be your coffee pot, You call the shots, I wanna be yours. I wanna be your raincoat For those frequent rainy days, I wanna be your dreamboat When you want to sail away, Let me be your teddy bear Take me with you anywhere, I don’t care, I wanna be yours. I wanna be your electric meter I will not run out, I wanna be the electric heater You’ll get cold without, I wanna be your setting lotion Hold your hair in deep devotion, Deep as the deep Atlantic ocean That’s how deep is my devotion. Egluntyne
How about this: From The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran…... On Marriage Then Almitra spoke again and said, "And what of Marriage, master?" And he answered saying: You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore. You shall be together when white wings of death scatter your days. Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God. But let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts And stand together, yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow. chelsea
my friend had this one a couple of weeks ago. The Art Of A Good Marriage (shortened version) Wilferd Arlan Peterson A good marriage must be created. In marriage the little things are the big things... It is never being too old to hold hands, It is remembering to say "I love you" at least once a day, It is never going to sleep angry, It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives, It is standing together and facing the world, It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family, It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways, It is having the capacity to forgive and forget, It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow, It is a common search for the good and the beautiful, It is not only marrying the right person, it is being the right partner. chelsea
I just found this one....quite like it. Captain Corelli's Mandolin Louis de Bernieres Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Those that truly love, have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two

Rhapsody
Let me not to the marriage of true minds Admit impediments. Love is not love. Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove: O, no! it is an ever-fixed mark, That looks on tempests and is never shaken; It is the star to every wandering bark, Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken. Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks Within his bending sickle's compass come; Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, But bears it out even to the edge of doom. If this be error and upon me proved, I never writ, nor no man ever loved. -Will Shakespeare
Snowy
I was going to look for the reading I did, but it's the first one that Chelsea posted - The Art of a Good Marriage. Saved me a job, thanks Chelsea!

Popcorn
Found those books Laura......here's a couple... On Your Wedding Day Today is the day you will always remember The greatest in anyone's life You'll start off the day as two people in love And end it as Husband and Wife It's a brand new beginning, the start of a journey With moments to cherish and treasure And although there'll be times when you both disagree These will surely be outweighed by pleasure You'll have heard many words of advice in the past When the secrets of marriage were spoken But you know that the answers lie hidden inside Where the bond of true love lies unbroken So live happy forever as lovers and friends It's the dawn of a new life for you As you stand there together with love in your eyes From the moment you whisper, 'I do' And with luck, all your hopes, and your dreams can be real May success find it's way to your hearts Tomorrow can bring you the greatest of joys But today is the day it all starts In Marriage Cherish each other in big ways and in small ways and never forget the magic of those three little words, 'I Love You'. In marriage, remember that it's the little things that make a difference.... Don't forget the birthdays and the anniversaries An occasional note means a lot. Share each others life - even the small details - for too often we forget that day after day becomes year after year, and then it's gone. Give each other room to grow We all need our time alone. Keep strong your faith in each other time has a funny way of testing us and it's faith that gets us through Respect one another... this world could always use more of that Speak your mind honestly, openly but with kindness for angry words are scars that may never heal. Trust each other; let your trust be your rock. Most of all, each day be sure to hold each other and fall in love all over again.
Popcorn
Emma - we're BIG john Cooper Clark fans here. His recent CD is a must in the car. Darren saw him recently at a festival in Leicester. Said he was brilliant. He's a complete package, and of course the accent makes him! The real bard of Salford.
bronze
we had three readings but the most lighthearted was Us Two Wherever I am, there's always Pooh, There's always Pooh and Me. Whatever I do, he wants to do, "Where are you going today?" says Pooh: "Well, that's very odd 'cos I was too. Let's go together," says Pooh, says he. "Let's go together," says Pooh. "What's twice eleven?" I said to Pooh, ("Twice what?" said Pooh to Me.) "I think it ought to be twenty-two." "Just what I think myself," said Pooh. "It wasn't an easy sum to do, But that's what it is," said Pooh, said he. "That's what it is," said Pooh. "Let's look for dragons," I said to Pooh. "Yes, let's," said Pooh to Me. We crossed the river and found a few - "Yes, those are dragons all right," said Pooh. "As soon as I saw their beaks I knew. That's what they are," said Pooh, said he. "That's what they are," said Pooh. "Let's frighten the dragons." I said to Pooh. "That's right," said Pooh to Me. "I'm not afraid," I said to Pooh, And I held his paw and I shouted , "Shoo! Silly old dragons!" - and off they flew. "I wasn't afraid," said Pooh, said he, "I'm never afraid with you." So wherever I am, there's always Pooh, There's always Pooh and Me. "What would I do?" I said to Pooh, "If it wasn't for you," and Pooh said: "True, It isn't much fun for One, but Two Can stick together," says Pooh, says he. "That's how it is," says Pooh. theherd123
Oh Bronze that has reminded me of my wedding day! My OH gave me a card to open on the morning of our wedding, the card was beautiful with a little girl on the front wearing a tiara and a fether boa with the words 'Fluff up your feathers its time to party' on the front and inside was this poem! Needless to say i shed a tear!

EM-81
Hi, I got married 4 weeks ago and we had a lovely reading, lots of people commented on it! I have pasted it below. Good luck!! Maybe... Maybe we are supposed to meet the wrong people before we meet the right one so when they finally arrive we are truly grateful for the gift we have been given. Maybe its true that we don't know what we have lost until we lose it but it is also true that we don't know what we're missing until it arrives. Maybe the happiest of people don't have the best of everything, but make the best of everything that comes their way. Maybe the best kind of love is the kind where you sit on the sofa together, not saying a word, and walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you ever had. Maybe once in a lifetime you find someone who not only touches your heart but also your soul, someone who loves you for who you are and not what you could be. Maybe the art of true love is not about finding the perfect person, but about seeing an imperfect person perfectly.
