Laura007
One of my chooks has what im fairly surw is a prolapsed vent. Ive mamaged to pop it back in but within 15 mins its out again. Ive tried again but its proving really difficult and doesn't seem to want to stay in. She seems bright and alert and is drinking but I dont know how long she will stay like that. Any suggestions? Cat tails
Trip to the vet. I had a hen with a prolapse. First time I managed to get it in and it stayed in for a few months. Second time got it back in, but she was really unhappy and trip to the vet for her to be pts sadly. There are sites that tell you to cover the prolapse with honey to shrink it, but no personal experience with it and not much faith.

No experience of it either, but there could be something in it: honey has anti-bacterial properties and can also work as a mild astringent. Natspringy
Hope she's okay. It's so hard when they are unwell xx
Laura007
Ive separated her from the others, she still drinking but I dont think she is massively happy. I keep checking on her but i think a trip to the vet might be in order if it doesn't improve. She was such a happy chicken aswell.
Lewis
It really depends on how big it is but that fact that you got it in and it stayed in for a bit is good. Sugar is also an astringent so will draw moisture out and shrink it. I would pop it back in and keep her in a warm dark box overnight, if it comes out again take her to a chicken savvy vet. Laura007
It was out again and water is just going right through her so ive taken her to the vet. She is now scratching around for corn in the big coupe in the sky. 🐔🌽🌈

Deb Dav
I had success with my of my girls who had a prolapse with Haemorrhoid cream. Just applied it (was wearing my marigolds) and kept her separate for a few days. Good Luck
mullethunter
Laura007 I know it’s hard because it’s tempting to keep them going in the hope things will improve, but I don’t think it’s fair when you can’t explain to the animal what’s going on and that it might get better. You did the right thing.

Laura007
Thanks. Its such a shame, she was a lovely chicken. This is her having her first dust bath after we rescued her.

The Dogmother
Sorry to hear that Laura. Generally, if the prolapse is bigger than the end of your thumb, it is unlikely to stay in. sadly, treating any larger prolapses is a bit of a one way street - they need to be despatched. She had a good life with you though.
