Sir Kit Breaker
E-day is fast approaching. Tuesday in fact. However a thought has occured to us. Are we supposed to have names ready for our chickens or should we wait to see their character traits before attempting to name them? We do not want to get this wrong and look like complete Divots on this forum LOL It was an easier process naming our first born!!
Egluntyne
You can take either approach! Go for a theme....like supermodels, or chefs, or chicken dishes, old fashioned names, plant names....anything that takes your fancy.
lisa33
I always wanted to call one of my chickens Bobbi (after Robert Pires cos he runs funny). Rae was named after we bought her (after Ray Parlour cos of her colouring) Andyman named Cynthia after we got her by trawling through the internet finding ladies names he liked. We are already thinking of new names for when we get some more.
Cinnamon
We inherited Poppy who is a Speckaldy & Rosie who is a Pepperpot,so our theme of flower names sort of evolved from there. So we have Lily, who is white, Pansy is ginger, & Daisy is a Daisy Belle breed. I already have earmarked the name Violet for one of the new hens I want to get in a couple of months, & may extend the theme to plants because I quite fancy Bramble, & Fern too
Rhapsody
I thought of the Bohemian Rhapsody names idea before I got the chooks but we didnt decide on excatly which names until we got them then thought them up on the way home in the car. Good luck!

tigerbunnyacres
I chose the names Margot and Barbara before they arrived, although they were nearly Cagney & Lacey, Pepsi & Shirley or Trinny & Susannah! I didn't just randomly choose which one was which though, Margot has a slightly wonky beak and a more regal demeanour - as does Margot the neighbour on the Good Life. Barbara is very different, much more down to earth! Breaking news (after four weeks) - Margot (who is a bit older than Barbara) started squatting when you approach her a few weeks ago, this is apparently a sign that laying an egg is on it's way. Well yesterday Barbara squatted too! Still no eggs but I'll keep you posted. Let us know what you name the chooks.
xChicken04x
We named ours when they arrived. Spice- because she's ginger (you know, ginger spice?) Lacey- because she has gorgeous laced feathers. Uma- After Uma Thermin (not named by me, dont ask!) Mischeif- because she is loud, and the first one to escape. Magic- because she's black (you know, black magic) Gemma- because she remindes me of my best mate (in the nicest possable way!) Nutmeg- because she's ginger. Clover- because we liked the name. xx

Chicken Licken
My OH wanted me to have K F and C so I have Fenny (Fennella) and Clara for starters. One day I will get a K as well. Fenny was named by my grannie she liked the idea of shouting for her - try it 'here fenny, fenny, fenny'. it has a nice ring to it. Clara just is a Clara, a little bit more cautious than her chicken sister and more of a stay at home bird - her favourite place is my back door mat for a sunbathe! I named them once they arrived. Richard
I have named all mine before they arrived. However I now have a problem as OH has pointed out to me that our Buff Sussex, called Peckham and Rye, can be told apart by the fact the one of them is becoming much better developed in the ehem ehem breast region than the other. Maybe I will need to rename her Jordon and the other one Kate (Moss)?
chelsea
our 1st two were Sam & Ella - just for fun! Our new additions - Star - beautiful dazzling white Cochin (a bright star!), Misty a lavender Cochin (she looks like misty moonlight!), And Coco the cuckoo maran because Coco went with Cuckoo! I must admit its all I've been thinking about all weekend, its been doing my head in.
Mrs Frugal
My first 2 were named before they arrived - Jennifer and Clarissa after the Two Fat Ladies on TV. Isabella also got her name before she arrived as we kept the cookery theme and named her after Isabella Beeton. We're getting 4 more hens later on this month, hopefully, and have absolutely no idea what to call them . There are only so many lady cooks! I think we'll choose a different theme for these 4. clucky
When we bought our four hens I wanted to call them after gemstones.... Ruby - Saffy (saphire) - Amber - Pearl . But I was overruled by my 8 year old little girl and we all agreed with her as they were afterall bought for her birthday. They are loved to bits. JellyB
Gertrude and Mabel (RIP) were my first 2 chooks and I'd already thought of the names tho' I have no idea where they came from I inherited Daisy but she suits her name Ziggy & Stardust - need I say more?? Queenie and Lady are also named after 2 fave Bowie songs but shortened from Queen B*tch (can't be shouting that down the garden) and Lady Grinning Soul. Mavis is named after the mum of my friend who took me to get them yesterday. We thought it was funny (and so did my friend's mum, who was quite pleased)

chickweed
I called my chooks after my Mum (Lil) and Mum in law (Daisy). Mum doesn't seem to mind, and Mum in law died many years ago. Both names seem to suit.
Kathy C
We went down the theme route. It gives potential for the future, and many more reasons for a drink . At first the names seem strange, but now its natural to us. We knew our pepperpot would be Perignon (Peri), because Dom Perignon has a dark label. The gingers would be Moet and Chandon (as a pair, and again label colour). When they arrived we looked carefully at the distinguishing features and named them both. Strangely, Chandon is top hen, but was named last.
feemcg
We started off with Disney princesses ( ), then Scottich Isles/place names, then Scottish female singers etc.etc. - oh, and Wendy cos her toes are bendy
Guest
Our 3 were named after the Australian series 'Kath & Kim'. Kel(ly) was Kath's boyfriend. The new girls will either be herbs or organ stops - I think probably organ stops.
chucky egg
My little boy named our chickens Oxford and Reading - because they are good train stations, of course!?!?

Shirl
My daughter that has just turned 3 chose the name Peppa for the Pekin she chose after Peppa Pig. I then decided on Henny Penny and Chicken Licken from the Chicken Licken story which my daughter loves. They were named after we got them but didn't really refer to the chickens or their natures when we chose them.
