flapping

Recommended Posts

Whenever I see my girls they flap their wings and come to me. . .is that like a dog wagging it's tail? ;-)

Also, they now LOVE to come inside. . .so if they are across the yard and hear the back door open. . .they come charging in.

Is there anything greater than a Chicken running????? I think it is the funniest thing. . .sort of makes you smile no matter how the day has been.

Sometimes, when I go to put one of mine back on the ground after a cuddle, they get their wings free. Its very funny holding their body, feet on the ground to see them flapping their wings. They're so confused as to why they're not going anywhere.

I only do it for 20 seconds or so - I'm not that cruel, but it is funny !!

The other day I finally managed to catch Buttercup who has learnt if she doesn't crouch and just runs away she wont get picked up - anyway, I got her but when they don't crounch its harder to get the wings and I obviously didn't have them as she flapped like crazy - I had to hold her at arms distance, eyes shut and lower her slowly to the ground!!

Yes - occasionally mine get naughty and try to run away. I ALWAYS make a point of 'getting' them (even just for 30 seconds) so they learn there is no escape if I decide I am going to pick them up. I am top chicken !!!!

we moved house approx 2 years ago. when we went to look at the place, we walked into the garden (which is at the side of the house) and something like 30 chickens came tearing down the garden, doing the flapping, rocking skippy run. They were a phenomical (I just made that up - mixture of phenominal and comical) mixed bag of breeds.

The elderly lady we bought the house from (who ran the village post office from her front room and sold eggs) had several cockerals as well as all the hens and had, originally, had some pure breeds and some hybrids. However they had all interbred over the years and the result was crazy - it was a mixture of bantams and full size with/without pompoms, feathered legs, and all colours ......

We just had to buy the house :D

but she took the chickens with her - they weren't part of the fixtures and fittings.

but she did leave the run!
