jsbates65
Whenever I see my girls they flap their wings and come to me. . .is that like a dog wagging it's tail? Also, they now LOVE to come inside. . .so if they are across the yard and hear the back door open. . .they come charging in. Is there anything greater than a Chicken running????? I think it is the funniest thing. . .sort of makes you smile no matter how the day has been.
Egluntyne
I think it helps them get a bit of speed up...so they can be first for the treats!
arowland17
ours are like that, if the back door opens they half fly half run the whole length of the garden and if the back door is open for more than 2 seconds they're straight over and into the kitchen as that's where the treats come from!! feemcg
I love that flappy run they do - when I let my lot out of the run its like a stampede and they all jump-flap-run around the garden, like kids in a sweetie shop not knowing where to explore 1st
Leicester_H
Sometimes, when I go to put one of mine back on the ground after a cuddle, they get their wings free. Its very funny holding their body, feet on the ground to see them flapping their wings. They're so confused as to why they're not going anywhere. I only do it for 20 seconds or so - I'm not that cruel, but it is funny !!
arowland17
The other day I finally managed to catch Buttercup who has learnt if she doesn't crouch and just runs away she wont get picked up - anyway, I got her but when they don't crounch its harder to get the wings and I obviously didn't have them as she flapped like crazy - I had to hold her at arms distance, eyes shut and lower her slowly to the ground!! Mel (& Paul)
I love it when they come rushing across the garden - I know its only the sweetcorn they are after but even so it raises a smile

Yes - occasionally mine get naughty and try to run away. I ALWAYS make a point of 'getting' them (even just for 30 seconds) so they learn there is no escape if I decide I am going to pick them up. I am top chicken !!!! Hazel

Tweety
I agree with your husband, Mrs Bertie - they always remind me of the T Rex chasing the jeep in Jurassic Park!
chelsea
i like - the cheery tail wag the "musical statues" whenever a pigeon flies over. - do yours do that? its very funny - they all stay completely still for a few minutes mid pose - no matter what they are doing.....hilarious
Jules.
mine have fantastic hearing- they are down at the bottom of the garden but can hear any noise coming from the kitchen. They always stop to take a look
Richard
we moved house approx 2 years ago. when we went to look at the place, we walked into the garden (which is at the side of the house) and something like 30 chickens came tearing down the garden, doing the flapping, rocking skippy run. They were a phenomical (I just made that up - mixture of phenominal and comical) mixed bag of breeds. The elderly lady we bought the house from (who ran the village post office from her front room and sold eggs) had several cockerals as well as all the hens and had, originally, had some pure breeds and some hybrids. However they had all interbred over the years and the result was crazy - it was a mixture of bantams and full size with/without pompoms, feathered legs, and all colours ...... We just had to buy the house but she took the chickens with her - they weren't part of the fixtures and fittings. but she did leave the run! Mel (& Paul)
you see - fixtures and fittings are theings that, if you turn your house upside down and shake it, remain fixed. contents would fall out......... simple really

The Dogmother
Mine do that stampede thing too Richard - they half fly/flap and race down the garden towards me. Could be terrifying if you didn't like chooks.

Chicken Licken
I like the chicken run the best too. It reminds me of the film and '..but I don't like gravy...don't want to be a pie'. I have a sneaking suspicion the girls would like gravy, especially with porrige! They are kitchen obsessed and make a run for the kitchen door if it is ever unguarded (the dog just looks confused)
