Egluntyne
Had to light the fire this evening. Bloomin' cold when I put the bins out....three men in the house (one with a broken collar bone, but it is his birthday so I let him off) and me with a sore back! Snowy
I lit the stove this evening, must bring all the kindling and logs nearer the house. I hate the cold, but love fresh air, so there's always a window open - I just wrap up. My OH complains that I try to heat the whole village Today fire was on in the lounge and the top half of the kitchen door was wide open. xraylady
I quite like cold crisp days. Unfortunately we tend to get the raging hooligan winds too that add an extra wind-chill of -300 deg C. Wow! -300 degree C! Thats below absolute zero!!! Quick! Call the Royal Society!!! Some poor "Ooops, word censored!" is going to have to check Lord Kelvin's calculations, pronto!!!!!!! buffie
I was up in the dark this morning. I love the nip and the smell of wood fires starting to be lit Remember it's sad lamp time if you if you suffer from winter blues or SAD. My sad lamp is switched on as I sit here typing BBx
Laura & CTB
My sad lamp is switched on as I sit here typing BBx Mine too Buffie. I'm starting earlier this year Although I think I had my last day of "summer" yesterday. It was beautiful sunshine all day and I spent it sat in the garden with the chooks drinking cocktails and listening to some great music. Put the patio heater on in the evening for a bit and lit the frankincense. Perfection
Cinnamon
We had the log burner on for the first time this season last night. The house smells all lovely & woody this morning now I like autumn - I LOVE summer, but I like autumn too. And how I see it is its less time to wait for Starbacks Gingerbread lattes now
lisa33
We had our gas fire taken out when we moved in last year. Now I can't wait till Monday when the new 'proper' fire is going to be put in. Although I love the summer soooo much I can't wait to be able to warm up round the fire after taking the Jasdog for a long wintery walk. Jules.
I have been given a SAD lamp, it is now in my bedroom on my bedside cabinet. It looks a bit like a DAB radio! It's too bright if I have it facing me, so I point it so I use it sideways on . I put in on it's lowest setting when I wake up, & even that has me screwing up my eyes until I can wake up! Our bedroom is on the back of the house, & I went to lock the chooks away & had left the light on....it looked like aliens had landed in my bedroom with the bright light showing around the edges of my black-out roller blinds!!!! Popcorn
Jules, that's funny! I'd like to get my OH a SAD lamp. He really suffers during the winter months. Leaving in the dark in the morning and arriving home in the dark in the evening seems to really affect his general mood. It's starting already too - he was really fed up last night at 8pm. I love the start of autumn. I love the nip in the air, and having to put an extra layer on. I really loathe being overly warm in the house, and especially in bed. I like the window open and a fresh breeze and cold covers! We have an open fire and I dread Darren lighting it. As lovely as it is, we always end up opening all the doors and windows as it gets too blummin hot! Imagine how silly our house must look in the middle of January

chickencam
We had a woodburner installed in July and we are now using it every night. Bliss. I have read loads over the last week or so and watched no TV ( except champions league last night ) because it is in another room. Looking forward to crisp walks and cosy nights in, but not to cleaning out chickens and changing their water on freezing cold mornings. At least I can let them out a bit later a weekends. Glad I'm not a chicken. I normally hate winter but find myself looking forward to it this year. Can anyone recommend a place to get a SAD lamp from, and do the alarm clocks that wake you up with a gathering light work. My son and I suffer in the winter, he has just started at secondary school and has to get up at 7 am. My daughter and I have spent the last two winters grumbling over our porridge on winter mornings but it is going to such a battle with DS he is already rebelling! sam42
I have one of the SAD alarm clocks and think it's fantastic. The light gradually comes on so that by the time the alarm goes off you are awake and not suddenly woken by the alarm.
Laura & CTB
Have a look here http://www.lumie.com/ I have a sad lamp at work and an alarm clock which I am very happy with - a much more gentle way of being woken up in the mornings
One Man Banned
Well there was certainly a nip in the air on Monday in Cornwall (St Agnes) and quite blustery so we waited til yesterday to put the awning up Yesterday was really lovely so we went for a long walk up the coast path and caught the bus back and walked back to the site over the beacon. Last night went over a bit chilly so we went to put the gas heater on...... and then realised we've been carting round an empty spare gas bottle for goodness knows how long so out came the fan heater instead! Winds picked up again today and very cloudy, certainly autumnal here, all the ferns have gone brown and the heather is in flower - looks very pretty tho Just got to try and start the day today, I'm struggling A xx

Andrew, that's the kind of silly we do to. And it's usually after we have packed and repacked the car to fit the gas bottle in too that we realise we can't use the stupid thing after-all Mind you - I remember one year, on a whim we decided to go camping in Skeggy (I think?!) We toured around for ages trying to find a camp site that wasn't full to the rafters, and we were really relieved when we did as we didn't really want to turn round and go home. We went to reception, paid the bill for 2 nights and filled out all the paperwork and tags to hang from the tent etc, and went to pitch up. It was getting dark by this time. Opened the boot and once we'd pulled all our belongings out, we realised we'd forgotten the tent. ARGH!!!!!!! We got a B&B for the night
Snowy
Oh no Gina - that's my worst nightmare! All the way to Wales I kept asking OH if he was sure he'd packed the tent! We also took an empty gas bottle all the way to France and only discovered it was empty on the Sunday, so no chance of getting a refill.
