Cate in NZ
I think summer's over . I'm sitting here at work and it's pretty freezing. I've even resorted to putting my little fan heater on 'cos I'm so cold and have been seeing a series of babies, all in nappies and not much else. I really can't remember ever having to get this heater out of it's cupboard quite so early in the year before
AMO
Yes - its over - I had to put the heating on at home last night!
Couperman
Over? When did it start? Summer, was that the day at Blenheim Kev.
Mrs Frugal
It's felt autumnal here for days but it's the first day when I've felt cold and have had to resort to a fleece. I love autumn and winter as I don't enjoy hot weather at all so I get excited at the prospect of frosty, misty mornings and wrapping up warm in front of the fire but this year feels different as we've not had a summer. You can't help but feel cheated, can you. Still..........I hope it's a beautiful autumn with gorgeous colours in the trees and plenty of leaves to kick through. Lots of bonfire smoke in the air to sniff, sloes on the Blackthorn for Sloe Vodka, jewel berries on all the hedgerows, conkers and sweet chestnuts. Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas to look forward to as well .
Clash City Rocker
Went to a football match last night, took Gloves with me and used them!! tho the weather today is Brilliant, Walked a few miles this morning on the Malvern Hills (Worcestershire-Edward Elgar territory) in glorious sunshine - Ace
The Dogmother
It was just 5 deg here this mornign and a faint mist in the air - need my winter PJs now - sprnting down the garden in a short nightie and wellies at 6am this morning wasn't fun... the chooks were laughing at me! It doesn't normally get this cold until the Michaelmas Fair comes to town at the end of September/beginning of October I'm not keen on the winter, much prefer heat and sunshine. Couperman
I quite like cold crisp days. Unfortunately we tend to get the raging hooligan winds too that add an extra wind-chill of -300 deg C. I spend half my time chasing plastic bottles that are awaiting the the twice yearly recyc collection. Doesn't snow much here now though, and I doubt I'll ever see the sae freeze again! Kev. Egluntyne
Definite nip in the air, brilliantly sunny though, an absolutely beautiful day. We're heading towards my favorite time of year.
Charlottechicken
Autumn doesn't start until Sunday I was kind of hoping it would start towards the end of October Very chilly but sunny here today. I went to a few DIY places on a retail park this morning, and walking around the garden areas could have done with a pair of gloves on to go with my fleece I am sure this coming winter was predicted to be very cold but dry. BeckyBoo
It was fantastic here today too, beautiful sunshine but a really sharp cold wind. Not long and we'll be crunching through those leaves one the way too and from school! I love it when seasons change, no matter what they are, spring to summer summer to autumn, autumn to winter, I think its really exciting! craftyhunnypie
We go away in our caravan all year round, but it feels even more special when it's cold...as it is so warm and cozy in our caravan. Love Halloween & bonfire night & our birthdays are both in Autumn (October)! Adore frosty crisp mornings - I will have to make up a doing the chickens in the cold outfit. Best get the knitting needles busy & knit some fetching woolies! I need to order some coal for the fire. We've got plenty of wood, but it spits & makes me jump! Plus I like to find faces in the coal when it's burning. It's getting near that time of year when we roast chestnuts in our special pan in our fire! The chimney needs a sweep first! Time to call in Humphery Puller our chimney sweep! Always tickles me his name, but he's lovely! All the berries are on the holly trees in our garden already & also on the Laurel trees. The conkers on the horse chestnut tree are huge already too and it won't be long until the plonk onto my cube roof! I've dug out my jumpers & bought some sweater dresses & leggings. I hate being cold, so when I go out I look like a snowman! I think it will be warm clothes going with me to France in 2 and a half weeks time! It was so dark this morning Teddy refused to go for a walk in the woods The overnight temp was just 1 degree and i wore a cardi for work for the first time in ages! OH is just lighting the fire as i type so it must be cold!!!
craftyhunnypie
You can't beat a proper fire can you Emma?? My newbie chickens - Rolo, Bounty & Smartie have beenn popping in and out of the eglu all afternoon for a warm up. They've got a bit of extra bedding in the nest tonight as all three huddle up in there! When they move into the cube with the older girls, I can see all 6 cramming into the nesting box - Bless! They will all be geting blankets over their houses if it stays this cold this week! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Emma.x
Karen & co.
The chimney needs a sweep first! Time to call in Humphery Puller our chimney sweep! chickweed
Time to call in Humphery Puller our chimney sweep! Always tickles me his name, but he's lovely! Emma.x Humphrey is our chimney sweep too !! What a co-incidence. I have read a really good book called "Snowball Oranges" by Peter Kerr. It's about a Scottish family who go to live in an old "finca" in the mountains of Majorca. There are some really funny moments in the book, particularly the old local tradition of sweeping a chimney with a live chicken. We could put Humphrey out of work if we followed this tradition. No way! If you enjoy a bit of light reading, have visited Majorca, and love chickens, you would enjoy this book.
The Dogmother
I lit the stove this evening, must bring all the kindling and logs nearer the house. I hate the cold, but love fresh air, so there's always a window open - I just wrap up.
