Popcorn
You are brave Laura, with a toddler and planning another. My freelance work is on the back burner until I can dedicate the time again. I'd find it too hard, and I'd get frustrated if I let myself, or a client down or couldn't put the time in I really wanted to. Maybe if you make a plan of action and pick it up again in a few years when the children will be at school and you can throw yourself into it and tackle all of your concerns and worries head on. If you can't find the strength, it might be your body's way of telling you it's not the right time and you are expecting too much of yourself. You've got a full time job being a fabby Mummy, don't forget how hard you work bringing up Seth and looking after Ross and your home. If you do get it up and running, I'll happily pass on your info to my Fashion and Textile students. Edited October 22, 2007 by Guest
Blackrocksrock
Sounds good - its difficult to get good fabric and craft stuff these days without going online and I am sure you will do well - just believe you can do it and you will. When you get the website up and going - pm it to me as may be interested in some fabric - dabble in patchwork and other things = or not as my fancy takes me. Thanks Hun, but the only way to make money is to work for yourself i think. I need to strike whilst the irons hot, and ive come across such a niche market , that will be importing certain things from America which we dont have here. my bodys got the strength, but i just dont believe in myself. Thats what i meant. The chemicals of stress pumping through me will shift that baby weight thats for sure.

BeckyBoo
Life is for living, take the risk and go for it, if you don't do it you'll never know! I bet you can do it, if you've already got as much sorted out as you say then you're half way there, take that next step, sometimes scary is good, it means you're alive! Just think how uplifted you'll feel when it's up and running and you're starting to get orders in! Good luck Laura, it will be hard with one little one around or two or three but it's not impossible, just don't make unrealistic expectations of yourself, and make sure you take time out to feel smug when it all works out! Go girl! Mrs B
feemcg
I'd say go for it too - its a lot to take on but if you take your time and do your homework, theres no reason why it can't be a success.....and if it isn't, move on to something else - life's too short (you're half my age ) On another note - you're avatar reminded me - you said you were going to post lots of pics and gossip from your trip to River Cottage.....c'mon, spill the beans
Lesley
Hi Laura - as Mrs.B says "life is for living", so go for it. I had an added incentive when we thought about buying the farm. Five years ago now, I was fit and healthy and our hobby was mountain hiking and hill walking. I slipped on ice ( not up a mountain)and badly hurt my knee. It took me three years to get anywhere near to normal and I still can't run or kneel down or even walk too well some days. Life is too short - you never know what is around the next corner - go for it!!!! Buying a farm perhaps wouldn't be a normal route to rehab. with a crocked knee for most people - but who knows what comes next? I certainly don't know what is round my next corner so we just jump in with both feet every time an opportunity comes our way I hope that makes some sense? fairy&cake
Feeling alot better today. Ive got a list of 4 things to do today [doesnt sound like a lot, but there long tasks] also, [jo whiley stylee] '' CAN I GIVE A MASSIVE SHOUT OUT TO KARL. Karen & co.
I tend to agree with the 'go for it gang'. There would be nothing worse than a few years down the like thinking "What if?" If the worse thing happens and you have to stop, then you have tried, and there is no reason in the world why you can't make this a fantastic venture Spread you wings Laura, and fly high karen x
Lesley
Laura - it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. You must do it for yourself and know that you've given it your best shot.

Couperman
Hi Laura, there are two types of people in this world, those who think they can and those who think they can't and they are both right. I can't remember who first said that but it is so true! You go for it! start small, grow gradually and once you make your first milion, remember who encouraged you to do it! I reckon being you own boss is great, although there is not so much risk in my line of work, well no more than working for someone else anyhow. I would advise speaking to you bank have them help you with your business plan etc, Good luck Kev. Anyhow
craftyhunnypie
Hi Laura - why not start small with say an ebay shop? That way you will find out what sells best, what brings best you the best profit & you will be able to see all statistics of what has stirred interest / what has been viewed the most. That's what we did & we do still have an ebay shop along with our business premises. You have to make sure you have a good load of stuff in your ebay shop though all the time, otherwise it's not worth having. But it's nice to go out / on holiday - come back and you have a ruck of emails & payments of stuff sold & paid for whilst you were out enjoying yourself! Also an website is priceless - a permanent online catalogue of the service & stuff you provide! When you start making a decent amount of money, then you can think about other ways of marketing. We had a load of colour brochures printed & these have also been a valuable tool for us. Another thing we do is acknowledge our best customers with a small discount every now & then or a small gift (pen / diary with our logo on etc). At christmas we send them a company Xmas card. It is good customer relations! SO yes, start small, aim big & you'll do it! Good luck! Emma.x
Clash City Rocker
Starting small and build yourself up is good advice. Mrs Clash and myself set up a Health & Safety Consultancy business over 10 years ago while both still working for other organisations. We worked evenings, weekends annual holidays (and a few sickies!!!) to get estabalished, got a few regular clients, Health & Safety accreditation, NEBOSH,etc. After about 5 years we knew we had a good product, so Mrs Clash gave up a good job/pension/sick pay/30 days holiday/Company Car to move the business on. The most scarriest thing we ever did. It took me another 3 years to pluck up the courage to join her (twice I handed in my notice but changed my mind!!)It is easy to say "just do it" or "don't listen to what other people think" but I worried about the changes or potential failure for years, maybe it's easier as you're a lot younger I wish you a genuine "good luck" it's not going to be easy but if you're plan works it will be worth the time, effort & tears. We now know that we should have made the changes years ago, now we've done it life is great. ps pete & carl Libs?
