FORENSICA
Today, just when we were leaving a restaurant a gang of about 5 youths stole our bikes! In front of our eyes. They were locked to a lamppost with a £14 Kryptonite - totally rubbish now we know- cable lock. We actually saw them clipping if off! It took them about 10seconds to approach the bikes and leave with them. We did run after them, being about 7 meters from the bikes, but even that was too far!! I can not believe that that happened!! Honestly, who would think that looking from a restaurant window 7m away at chained bikes would give anybody any chance! I am still quite in shock from the attitude these young people have! How can they actually take somebody's property? As my hubby said, the only consolation is that these kind of people will never get any far in their life and to be honest, is serves them right Edited January 6, 2008 by Guest

Janty
Let's hope that they drove them right in front of something heavy and travelling fast. That makes me a horrible person, I know.
Egluntyne
How rotten. Look out for them on Ebay.
Ain't Nobody Here
How horrible . The nerve of them .
FORENSICA
Janty- I am with you 100% and you are not horrible at all. I was so upset. I don't care about the bikes that much (even though we had them for only about 3 months), but what is beyond my believe that they can do it. I know now that I will definitively not bring my kids up here in London. But what to do? How to tackle this crime or any crime?Prison system doesn't seem to be working. How about to cut one hand off when they are caught? Or maybe send them for a really tough military training? I am sooo upset!

chelsea
what goes around comes around, I believe in Karma - they'll get their come-uppance! Couperman
Makes your blood boil. I hate thieves and agree with the Saudi method of dealing with them, but property can be replaced, it could have been worse. Had you managed to get hold of them you could have had a bigger problem with many kids now carrying knives and even guns. I know it is so annoying but it doesn't seem to be worth the risk defending your property anymore. A bloke walking his dog in a nice area near us was kicked to death last week by a gang of kids for no apparent reason I feel sorry for the decent kids who get tarred with the same brush as these inbred morons. Charlottechicken
I am so sorry to read this and hope you are not too shaken up. what I think if these sort of people is unprintable, but I too hope they get what they are giving out. xChicken04x
How horribe I know how you feel, our car was stolen right in frount of our eyes a few months ago, we had only had it for about 4 months (hadn't even payed for it yet ) The lady just hopped in and drove away. Luckily it was found a days later, totaly unharmed all the CD's there, on the same radio station, and the lady was charged Although for some reason, there was a random onion on the front seat though Anyway, getting to my point, phone the police, they might find the bikes for you good luck! xx
Ain't Nobody Here
Although for some reason, there was a random onion on the front seat though . Can't believe that about your car, though . How do some people have the gall to behave like that? I can't even pick up a dropped coin in the street without feeling like I'm stealing . FORENSICA
Believe it or not, police took this very seriously. They called us on Sunday morning (morning after the theft) with some good advice. Apparently these people tend to go to close by markets (Brick Lane, Petticoat Market) and try to sell them there. So we went there and after some walking around I saw my bike!!! There were about 4 blokes standing next to it. I called hubby to have a look too. They saw me and I didn't want to scare them off by going there again. Hubby confirmed my suspicion and we called 999. Police came, they walked with hubby there but the bike was suddenly abandoned. "Ooops, word censored!"ody claimed it, "Ooops, word censored!"ody around. Pity but one thing is great - my bike is back!!!! A little skinned since they took most personal stuff of it but I have it! We think that next week we might try to put some hoods on and look for hubby's bike.
Ain't Nobody Here
Great that you got your bike back - but that they got away, evil toerags.
chelsea
cheeky blighters! You did well, going and trying to find your bikes...I would have been scared !
One Man Banned
That is incredibly brave but then at least you did the right thing and called the police to go in there to get the bike back and not gone in yourself. It's a sad society we live in these days isn't it Just the one to find now A xx
Basset
Well done, Great Detective Work!!! Good on you, not letting them get away with it.
FORENSICA
Thanks so much for the supportive words It was not scary to go there, since I knew that they could not remember me from yesterday. And also, the market is so huge and there is so many people that you kind of feel safe. It must have been a big gang of them since somebody had to tip them of that the was police coming. Pity that the policemen were wearing uniforms. It could have been different and they could maybe catch the scum. But you can imagine how happy I was that we retrieved at least one bike. Who would have thought
Egluntyne
Well done! I hope the little beggars get caught redhanded nest time. There will be a next time! Am still chuckling about the random onion on the seat of the stolen car.
WitchHazel
Well done! Did they give you any advice on what sort of lock to use on your bike in future?
AnnieP
That's good news! One down, one to go!
FORENSICA
No they didn't tell us what lock to use next time. I would say that these people are walking around and looking for an easy prey. And since they must have had a bolt cutter, or something like that with them, possibly a big chain or sturdy U lock should stop them from being that fast. But then who would want to spend £80 on a lock? Well, I guess that we would now.
Aunty e
I tried going to brick lane when my bike was stolen, but sadly no joy. Someone pointed out as it was quite a distinctive (AND EXPENSIVE) folder, it had probably gone to the other side of london. No luck on ebay either. You did really well to get it back. Good luck for hubby's bike!
FORENSICA
Autny e - what a shame you didn't find your bike...I reckon that we were really lucky. But hubby's bike is the biggest frame available and hence we think it would be too easy to spot and so that is maybe why they didn't have it with them. But at least my bike was more expensive
