But I know what next week usually means and it probably will go into the following week. They had loads of applicants, chances are slim......but its a chance. chelsea Posted April 26, 2008 Author Share Posted April 26, 2008 Letter in the post today. I didnt get it. I am SO disappointed. I knew I had a slim chance but I was really counting on getting my dream job. Do you know I dont know whether I can take any more knock backs my current job is getting me down and all this rejection is knocking me down further. Im really puzzled as to why im not getting these jobs ...im not blowing my own trumpet but I have been in continuous employment since leaving school (im now 36). I have lots of qualifications, GCSES, typing qualifications, im just starting an NVQ in customer service and an excel course. Have excellent references and have been in customer service with my current employer for 10 years so its not like I flit between jobs. Im enthusiastic, friendly, conciencious. Im so frustrated and from being on a high after attending the interview (I actually look forward to interviews!) and now im on a real downer. Im fortunate enough to be in employment, what it must be for someone who is out of a job trying to find work? I really feel for them. I give up. You know what, next time I go for an interview, Im not going to smile or be enthusiastic or be friendly (which is what I do) maybe by being a miserable old cow might get me the job?!! I would have to be looking for a job if I was unemployed as it must be very soul destroying to be knocked back as it is at any time. I've done this in the past and it is sometimes very reassuring. It may be nothing at all you did wrong, just that someone had a few more points on their list of wants. I have had some very positive feedback, despite not getting the job, and it has always made me feel much better about it. (((hugs))) the perfect job really is there for you! I'm sure it's nothing wrong with you, just someone else with more experience. I'm sure that'll boost your self-confidence for the next interview that comes along. Otherwise you'll be imagining all sorts that might be wrong with you whereas there's obviously nothing . You need reassurance from them. Good luck. There really is nothing worse than being stuck in an awful job (I've been in a few! ), and it just makes any rejection even harder to take doesn't it As the others have said, ask for feedback - they sound much nicer than the candle company, and so hopefully will be happy to give you constructive advice. I know that when our company recruits they mark you against the job description - that's how they do their weeding out. Even if you don't have the exact experience, you have to be able to show how you meet the criteria, giving examples of every aspect. However this doesn't sound like it is a problem for you because you are getting the interviews The right job is out there for you Chelsea, these others are just practice runs so that you can really shine when the time comes (although by the sound of it, if you shine anymore, interviewers will need their sunglasses on - oh and I meant that as a compliment!) Probably the person who got the job had already got experience of working in a vets, or working with animals, so they chose them instead. Please don't give up the search, you said at some point that you knew you would really like to work in a vets. Why don't you get the Yellow Pages and ring around all the vets in your area and see if any of them need staff? This shows initiative and keeness, which employers really appreciate. I once got turned down for a job and I 'phoned and asked them why I hadn't got it, and it was just because there was another candidate who could start immediately where I had to give a month's notice. It could be something as simple as that. You seem to have the right attitude with lots of enthusiasm so I'm sure something will come along soon.... I agree with what the others have said though, it's worth asking for feedback. When we get turned down, we tend to think 'what did I do wrong' and blame ourselves, but the reality in most cases is that you did nothing wrong, it's just that on the day there was a stronger candidate. Keep trying - sooner or later you will succeed, I think the tip about being pro-active and contacting vets direct is a great one. Same thing goes for jobs these days. Do ask them to give you feedback on your interview, as it's usually really useful. It is definitely a good idea to phone them for feedback as it gives you an opportunity to say that you are still really interested in working for them and ask them to keep you in mind if any more opportunities come up. Mirkwood Posted April 26, 2008 Share Posted April 26, 2008 chelsea i know how you feel i worked in Personnel hiring people for a leading Supermarket chain, and my personnel manager ( i was the supervisor) was "Ooops, word censored!" and i hated it. so after talking to my husband i decided to tell her i wanted out and drop from full time to part time. The reaction i got was " you just need a holiday" this went on for a yr in the end i waited till november last yr when she was on holiday and sat with the store manager and told him how i felt. he agreed to put me out on the shop floor. but i too want out of the store i have been in there 8yrs and love the people but when they took us over they ruined the family feeling we had and our store is on its knees due to bad management. the employees still come to me because they say that the personnel manager is not approachable. chelsea Posted April 27, 2008 Author Share Posted April 27, 2008 thankyou everyone for the lovely supportive comments. I feel a bit better today, its their loss is my opinion! I was even dropping a £1 an hour to go for that job so that's how keen I was. Anyway, I have cut my hours at work (I got the ok on Thursday) so this will give me more time at home with the girls, less stress and Im going to finish my NVQ course and then apply for some more jobs.
