AnnieP
My class decided a while ago that they would like a pet, and being such a great teacher ( ), I decided they could, (after reading through a mountain of health and safety manuals, policies and guidance from our wonderful government )! We did lots of investigations and finally decided upon a rabbit! They have been doing fundraising activities for the last month or so, and through cake stalls and a fun run, we have raised enough money to buy a really s"Ooops, word censored!"y indoor hutch, all the accessories and a gorgeous little bunny . The children have made all the decisions along the way and are so proud of the latest class member! They are actually drawing up rotas to clean her out today! After nominations and a vote, her name has been chosen: They have called her "Chaos", so that they can go around saying "We have got Chaos in our classroom" She is an English Giant, and I picked her up last Saturday from Rabbit World, (Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm, for those of you who are local). They have been excellent in their help and advice. She just has to be the most chilled out rabbit I have ever come across. So far she has encountered wet playtime, music, drilling, vacuuming, a full blown DT lesson and has taken everything in her stride. We are currently keeping her door open, with the ramp out, so she can come out when she wants, and the children know that her cage is her "safe place" and they are not to touch her when she is in there. She is taking to the litter tray wonderfully and I think I am in love! Will try and get a piccie up soon. She is going to be ginormous by the way. Her mother was easily the size of a spaniel! Now the question is, will "Miss" get to have her during the holidays?
Ziggy
That sounds so lovely... can't wait to see the pictures... I wouldn't get my hopes up about the holidays if I were you... our school hamster is so booked up for every weekend and holiday, that the waiting list will most likely outlive the hamster!! Mrs Frugal
Awww lovely, Annie. I love bunnies . It's lovely for the children to have one in their classroom as not all will be able to keep pets at home. It'll be so nice for those children to be able to experience looking after a pet. The Dogmother
They love cuddles, but do watch out for chewed clothes. Cupcake was sat on my lap once and managed to chew part of my jeans to shreds before I noticed!

hillfamily
That's brilliant Annie I think it's so important for children to learn about animals and importantly how to look after them and the responsibility involved. Can't wait to see some photos and i hope you get an occasional chance to look after it in the hols

The Dogmother
She is gorgeous Annie-Pie. Won't be long before she outgrows that litter tray. My girls used to lie in the hayrack when they were little - I reckon they'd rip it off the door if they tried it now
fairy&cake
How lovely! I bet the children adore her. What age are the children you teach? English giants are adorable, our friend is a breeder of them, and at the moment she has some HUGE ones that are pure white, we tell Seth its 'Alice in Wonderland's bunny' Does she hop around the classroom when your teaching??? AnnieP
Well folks, as expected, the bunny is NOT coming home to me this holiday . There was a mass rush to get letters in to me from parents saying "we want Chaos this holiday"! She is brilliant. Only ever having had outdoor rabbits, this is SO different! Apart from the fact that she tries to eat the exercise books (I think my class are actively feeding her their maths books), she is SO chilled! She hops around, making a clown of herself, jumping in and out of trays, onto laps, nibbling shoes, stealing stuff off walls. Her entertainment value is priceless. Usually when I am trying to teach something really serious, she will pop up and have us all in hysterics. The children are happy to take turns to clean her out, and we have devised a system for getting her back in her cage at the end of the day: They make a human tunnel and the child nearest the cage door rattles her "treat box". She comes running! to get her treat! She is growing like mad! I wish I had got one years ago. Oh, and last night when I got home, OH said, "Do you need the big car tomorrow to bring Chaos home?" When I said a child was having her, he sulked!
