Chicken names

Recommended Posts

What are your chickens called and if you got more what would you call them.

From what the kids have been saying mine are going to be called, Daisy, Rosey and Dandelion (the last one was the name chosen by my three year old as it is his favourite flower :? )

Give me some other good names I can tempt them with.

I think those names are cute actually :lol:

but how about egg names? Like (yours truly) Scramble? Yolky? or even the name I was going to call one of mine Yolko?

There is also lots of names going around like Tweety, Babs, Henrietta. Just try out lots of names and see what fits in with you chickens! :D

My son named most of mine....rather wittily in most cases.

My daughter named the ex-batts after the strictly professionals.

I chose the names of the three youngest......just liked them and it was a coincidence that they all begin with "H".

Edited for typo.

Are you looking for other ways to inspire your children? I enjoyed letting our children choose the names - they can't choose the name of our baby so the chickens and our fish were the next best thing! One of them wanted a disney princess, one of them is a 'favourite name' that also belongs to many soft toys etc., and one is named after Bob the Builder's helper!

we had a family ballot - 2 votes each then a shortlist and one vote each - our 4 kids are 5-14 so names varied from fairytale to cool ( Borat being the teens' favourite!). democratic but it has meant we have ended up with Custard, Pumpkin, Iggy and Ruby ( which I chose actually in a fit of pique!)....but I don't suppose the chickens mind! :D

I let the children name theirs - ds1 called his Speckeldy Selina, dd chose Sarah Jemima, ds2 was too small, so by proxy (ds1) he chose Ginger. Then Sarah Jemima died, we then got 2 more, dd called hers Honey, and mine kind of called itself Dopey by her behaviour!!!

The latest 2, I knew I wanted a bluebelle called Smokey, and Snowdrop's name evolved from Snowball to Snowdrop.

I like those names! My 3 boys and I got to choose a chicken each and each of us chose that chickens name. We ended up with Strummer (after Joe, from The Clash), Lucky (originally Evil Knievel), Polly and Dora. Dora is mine, and would have had a prettier but stillold-fashioned name (Dolly or Molly or Rosie or Daisy) but she's a mardy bird and didn'tsuit a "pretty" name. Names I'd go for in the future would be girls names or herbs (Coriander, Lavender etc). I did suggest to the boys they named them Rose, Martha and Donna after the Doctor Who assistants but they weren't impressed.

We went with the Spice girls as I managed to get tickets for their concert the day before we picked our girls up. My son named Gerrard and Torres (the RIR minis) and Delia and Mrs. Beeton (he likes cooking). We named the ex-batts Christmassy names as we picked them up on 28th December.

We have: Tallulah + Cassandra (from Dr Who); Velma and Daphne (from Scooby Doo); Doris; Edna; Agatha; Avril (skinny and always singing, so after Avril Lavigne); Gloria; Delila; Myrtle; Toto (from the Wizard of Oz).

We started with flowers; Daffodil and Marigold, then Sylvie (silvernick) and Magpie (pied suffolk) were named after their hybrid type. The bantams Bossy, Yum-yum and Bumble were named after their personailities. Yoda and Yaddle, the skylines, were named because the green skin of their namesakes matches their green eggs. Sonic, our blue pekin boy chick, was named by DS because he is blue and was in a hurry (he hatched a day early) and red pekin pullet chick Chubby was named by DD because she liked the name! Serves me right for letting let the kids name our pets!

My niece and 2 nephews were asked to help with names  and I suggested things ex-batts would not have seen or experienced before, thinking sun, moon, sky, rain etc, but no, they came up with :-

Chance - because we're lucky hens that have been given a second chance

Joy - we're jumping for joy because we've been given a second chance

Hope - we were always hoping for somethng better and now we've got it

Dandelion - becauae my niece like it - she's very sensible

Daisy and Clover - chosen by me because, along with dandelions, that's pretty much what my lawn's made up of.

Maybe in the fullnes of time any new girls could have the "thing's we've never seen before" names.

We originally had Mulder and Scully (until we lost Mulder to a fox. Fox Mulder - geddit????)

Scully was joined by Treacle and Toffee (colour and foodstuff-related).

Then we got the Silkies - Muggle and Squib (Harry Potter related).

Our latest additions are Araucanas - so Chilean names - Violetta and Gabriela (DD also reckons it's from Gaby in Desperate Housewives so calls her Mrs. Solis  )

Haven't got our chucks, but we are in the throw's of thrashing it out between all family member's.

We decided they should all be based on a group of things - unfortunately we all want differnent groups :?

Hubby want's 'The A Team' - Face, Murdock, BA and Hannibal

Son want's WWE Wrestlers - Batista, Edge, The Undertaker and Triple H

(neither seem to grasp that they are girls :roll: )

Daughter want's Gemstones - Amber, Ruby, Emerald and Jade

I quiet fancy Hippy names - Star, Skye, Luna, Rocket

BUT to one we all sort of like a bit and I think we are all sort of agreeing on is Animal names from Harry Potter:

Buckbeak, Aragog, Mrs Norris and Crookshanks

Then again, by next week it could all have changed again

My OH and I chose a name each (well, his name had to pass my approval). I really wanted 'old ladies' names and had a list of about 10 before whittling my name down within a couple of weeks to Ferne. OH chose Prudence within 5 minutes!

I think I would stick with the same approach if I ever got anymore so names such as: Harriet, Mary, Betty, Patsy, Genevieve etc..
