Another proud parent moment ...

Recommended Posts

My oldest has been asked to join a band!

He is at college on a music course (band work, stage management etc) and his ultimate goal is to make a living as a drummer. Well yesterday he met with a local band who have been looking for a drummer, and has been invited to stay with them! First gig in 6 weeks!!! 8) (sadly it is a private party so I can't go and cheer him on :( ) They are only a young band, doing heavy metal covers, but it is a start, and I am so proud of him - just had to tell everyone!! :D:D8)

Thank you! He's loving the course - but it is very practical based, lots of studio work and working with sound systems and stuff, not 'proper' music (although I would say 50% of the time they are working in 'bands').

Sounds like Music Tech.

And as a musician, I would disagree with you, it is 'proper' music. Without the techies hardly any live or recorded music could happen. They are vitally important and their aural skills (getting the balance right between instruments/voices etc) can make or break a performance.

Excellent news though Snowy. I'm really pleased for him and hope it all goes well!

Well done that drummer! I can feel a Phil Collins income coming on!:lol: I bought my son a drum kit for his last birthday, he absolutely loves it, he has to drum on absolutely everything he gets his hands on (mind you he is only 3! )

Hope he enjoys the gig and it leads on to bigger and better things!

That's fantastic - Well done Snowy Jnr. I bet he'll love it.

My cousin is a drummer and plays with about four different bands - all different styles, mostly just for fun. He is in his 30s now, it's a huge part of his social life and he plays the odd gig to top up his day job wages.

ES has just started drum lessons and is tapping rhythms on anything that will sit still long enough. I've never seen him so gripped by an activity before - I fear we may be sound-proofing his bedroom before long!
