Mrs P
Guys, I need some ideas! My stepson is 18 in 4 weeks time and doesn't know what he wants for a present. He is very fortunate and (having two sets of parents!) has everything he needs really. Anyone got any ideas what would be a good gift? We want to get him something that lasts - he is a keen footballer, golfer, has a car. I was thinking maybe a really nice watch or something like that but really I've got no idea! PLEASE help! Thanks everyone. love Mrs P
Clur
If he's got a lot of 'stuff' what about an experience he can hold in his memories! If he's a keen driver, maybe a rally driving lesson or off-roading lesson, hovercraft racing anything like that. Or if he's got a favourite football team, how about a tour of their grounds and a match (knowing nothing about football, is it that season?!). poachedegg
An experience in what he is interested in was going to be my idea too.
Mrs P
Thanks for the ideas. An experience day is a great idea and one which had crossed my mind. I got a microlight flight for my husband for his 40th and he loved it. Might go for that! Cheers!
Mrs Frugal
My Tom was 18 a few weeks ago and we bought him a solar powered Citizen watch as he was always complaining that the battery in his digital watch was flat. LSH and I both have solar powered watches and they are fab! They only need a few hours charging on a sunny windowsill initially then daily wear is enough to keep them going. We also bought him a "First Drive Experience" at Rockingham Race Track as he was too nervous to apply for proper driving lessons. This was so much fun and he learned so much that he's now had 4 hours of proper lessons with the BSM .
Mrs P
Luke passed his test a couple of months ago and is much more confident a driver than me! The watch sounds great though - I think I'll have a look at them. I suppose most good jewellers will have them?
Mrs Frugal
We bought all of our Citizen solar powered watches from Argos. They're not hideously expensive - I think mine was only £50. We bought Tom a posh looking one and it was about £80 as it was a special occasion. Well done to your lad for passing his driving test . keyhole kate
I have to say an Experience Day would be to of my list too. We booked a Yamaha bike day for DS's 18th (he was already riding mopeds) OH booked & went too(any excuse) they still talk ablout it now I think at that age they arent as impressed with things that last
Mutrix Farmers
My thought was an experience day. When Son was 13 he asked to go to Mercedes-Benz world. Even children as young as him are given a driving lesson in an A-class Merc on part of the old Brooklands track. He still talks about it now 18 months later. Qualified drivers can opt for a spin in other Mercs, again around the track or off road.
Ardene5
Hi With reference to the car, is it new or old? Offer to buy a couple of new tyres, or pay for a service, or have the brakes sorted before winter arrives. If a golfer does he need some golfing clothes? Clothes , shoes or offer to pay for a weekend away. A very nice watch. The sky is the limit so what about a balloon flight in The Lakes can recommend it. Lisa
If you go fo an experience day they do them with Tesco Clubcard deals if you collect the vouchers!
Cooks
I would say an experience day aswell, if he has everything he needs right now. The memories wil be great but would he go on his own? (thinking back to when my brother was 18 he would have gone with a friend etc) if not how about booking it up with realtive/close friend and let them share an experience together? Alternatively how about taking him out for a meal that he will remember and give him some money/vouchers to buy something he wants at a later date? earthmam1
Hi Mrs P We got our 2nd son a racing car experience for his 18th and he loved it. It was three times around the track in a porche with a racing driver (it helped with the experience coz his driver had long legs, blonde hair and she was stunning ) and then three times around the track in a formula 3 car. We also paid for it to be videoed. He had a great time
redhotchick
If someone was to buy me a paragliding experience I would be thrilled! If cars are his "thing" then perhaps that is the experience for him.
