Back & shattered!

When can we gut the hen? I'd like to do it sooner rather than later as I'm not keen on it being in the fridge with feet sticking out of its bag  and with a bloody head since I broke the skin on its neck whilst brooming it.

" Brooming"-The act of humanely dispatching a chicken using a broom handle :D

Should that expression go into the dictionary :?::think:

( I made the expression up, its not a proper or technical term!)

At least my chicken kept her head attached......

We've already gutted and removed head and feet. It's sat in the fridge now to rest for a few days. It's looking very yummy. There was much more fat in the cavity on the one we dispatched than the one we gutted and boned this afternoon. Very interesting to see the difference.

What ever do you mean? :anxious: . I've just got back from dropping off Laurmaurf and I have to say I am really tired now after it all. It was an amazing day, I certainly learned a lot, and laughed a lot more than I ever thought it would be possible to do at a chicken dispatching course :lol: .

I hope we weren't too badly behaved, and that those poor children recover :doh: . Some moments you just couldn't time better if you planned them :shh: .

I'm going to look at my photos now and see what treasures of the day I captured

Alison told me to gut it Tuesday or Weds

I thoroughly enjoyed the course, it was really, really good. It was also the first time in 11 months I have done anything for me /not had the baby to look after so it was fab (some might say odd choice!) Shame about the row with dh after (because we were supposed to be coupling this with a trip to see his parents but *somebody* didn't realise quite how far Whirlow was from Chapeltown and also didn't finish until an hr after I said I would  ) so we just came straight home. Totally shattered now after paying penance of doing the whole drive back...

Shame I didn't get to meet you all, I would have loved to have come and talked chooks with you all

LOl, we also had a mum walk round with a kid when Alison was doing the demo cockerel

It looks as if Jules and I are having a stare off in this photo  . Just to assure you all it wasn't the case  . It was lovely to meet you Jules, I just wish I had listened to my OH and brought my spare plasic bars with me, but :shh: , don't tell him :lol: .

Great photos Mostin, Janty and Egluntine - thanks for posting those.

I wasn't aware that we went from the course to a teapot convention

Why did no one tell me about the feathers in my hair? - I must have looked like some crazy chicken axe murderer in the cafe

Just remember Alison will know when you've clawed your fingers

And if you've been cutting and not s"Ooops, word censored!"ing. :D

Or slicing your breasts!!!

Long time since I have laughed so much.

My photos will come later, there are more 'technical' ones. Trust Egluntine to get a photo of me trying to get the skins on the darned sausage machine... don't usually have that problem!

So how many of you now think you could keep some meat birds? I have a freezer full now after my two batches over the winter, which is good as we do nt intend having any over the summer with our new layers to bring up and then holidays.

I must admit you are all a lot braver than me - I sent OH down to Alison and whilst I do a bit of plucking and tend to take over for gutting cooking and leave OH to 'do the deed'.
