Margalot
Thought I would start a thread to see what the different food stuffs of our chooks adore? Mine all seem to have different favourites! Tinker : MAD for Red Grapes Bonbon: Would kill for a cherry tomato Midnight: loves her greens especially cucumber, broccoli and courgette Ginger: also a greens lover, will run around for ages with a piece of cucumber in her beak too scared to put it down in case it gets nicked! Whats yours??
freckles
Corn on the cob is a big favourite Grapes too It's sooo funny when they are running around with it in their beaks isn't it . Our big hen (Bella) is really greedy so the wee bantams are always being chased.
C&T
Hmmm. Well for Fred it is Peas or Spinach. Other than that, she is a simple girl, and if she can have a few worms (without Ginger pinching them from her) she is happy, and not too bothered. Ginger though will eat anything. Up to this weekend the current favourate was Leek. She has now found grapes though... Up till now she wasn't bothered about them, but does now hastily swallow them whole, so that she can then try and pinch Freds. Sweetcorn - they love but are not allowed - it gives Ginger the squits...
atsw
Mine all love sweetcorn, but will go mad for Spaghetti or long thin Pasta, which is particularly comical when they are running around with it in their beaks. Just last night I offered them some Cheerios (the breakfast cereal), and they thought that was a great treat too. Andrew
Carol U
Dried mealworms and spaghetti - not necessarily together!
tooties
I've only had my ex-bats for 5 wks and am sadly disappointed that they don't see all the treats I have tried to give them as edible!! Currently they go completely mental for dried mealworms and grapes, mugging each other and me for them! Although I did have some success with cat food last night (to help them grow back their feathers) - but it was my 5th attempt!
chelsea
mmm. ...its a tricky decision as they like so much. I would say corn on the cob just nudges into the lead,...they practically push me over to get to that.
splodge88
Corn on hte cob, grapes, broccoli... love everything though - apart from their one pet hate...carrot!
jlo
it's funny how their tastes differ. Beebs is a real carnivore and can devour about three times as many works as Tango. On the other hand, Tango is a vegetarian and goes mad for spinach which Beebs hardly touches!
westleigh
mine love spaghetti, they think its loads of worms
3hens2cats
Hiya, If I want my hands bitten off then sweetcorn every time closely followed by currrants. Dh gave them some currants when he got home from work and commented on how he nearly lost his finger. They do love brocauli, soggy bread and erm,, have discovered cat food after breaking into the kitchen and 'whey hey girls so much to choose from and so little time' they make me smile Naomi
Boybeck
My three love a cabbage hung from the eglu run. Grapes are also a big hit.
fluffyknickers
I bought mine some dried mealworms - they looked at them in disgust and turned their backs!!!! No pleasing some chooks. Mine go crazy for corn and sweetcorn and also when they get a special treat of weetabix with hot water!!! Do you have to cook corn on the cob? flowerangelk8x
oh... its got to be corn, corn, corn and did i mention corn
lizh
Hi, mine will kill each other and anyone else in the vicinity for pieces of chopped cucumber!! The only other treat they seem to like is corn. But give them cucumber and its like a feeding frenzy Liz
Vivihen
Mealworms, spinach, sweetcorn and sprouted wheat. My husband was moving a pile of bricks the other day and the chickens discovered woodlice. Not strictly speaking a food treat but I've not seen them get quite so excited before.
Groovychook
Anything that I'm eating They have been known to jump in the air and grab cake out of my hand if I've dared to eat it anywhere near their enclosure... naughty girls
cliveb
It would have to be, Tuna, Grapes, Porridge and Mealworms. Probably not in that order though.
Hangman
Their favourite treat is something that's moving when they catch it - their human-given favourite treat is couliflower.
Dolly
Corn on the cob (or the tinned variety) is the winner in our house, followed by brocolli and apple but none of them will touch carrot!
Mazzarina
Pasta (particularly fusilli) and porridge are the two that send them into ecstasies. Also high on the list: corn on the cob, apple cores. And, for the last few weeks, Bertha's favourite food treat has been Carmencita, I'm afraid to say - her snack on the go. Off to get some anti-peck spray... Mutrix Farmers
Grapes, pasta, rice and mealworms - in equal measure!
Mrs Webmuppet
Mine love sweetcorn, peas, banana ( especially over ripe ones) and apples.
Seagazer
Sweetcorn/corn on the cob, brocolli and cabbage hung up in the run. I'm worming them at the moment with grapes and they would actually bite my fingers off if they could to get the grapes. Ginger, my shyest girl, has actually been on my lap this afternoon just for the grape. First time ever
Willow
Leftover breakfast cereal with absolute favourite being the chocolate flavoured ready brek my kids asked for then decided they didn't like. Rice and soggy bread come next. Mine don't eat left over lumps of carrot but they will eat the peelings.
