Are there any musical Omleteers?

Recommended Posts

I was having a wrangle with my concertina and I wondered who else on here might be a bit musical?

Do you sing in a choir, or at karaoke, or play any instruments? Do you do what you do semi-seriously, just for fun, or just for the cat or chickens?

I'm wondering if we might just have an orchestra, big band or folk or rock supergroup on here between us!

To start the ball rolling, I can play:

Oboe

Cor Anglais

Flute

Recorder (don't laugh - it sounds good when played properly!)

Organ

Low and high Irish whistles

pretty well, and like to sing ballads, folk, jazz, blues and poppy classics.

I can play:

Piano

Clarinet

Dulcimer

Ukelele

Guitar

Lap harp

badly. Some VERY badly!

And I am about to start learning Baritone English Concertina having failed to get the hang of an Anglo Concertina (the fingerings and notes are different. I sooo want to play some piratey sea shanties though! ).

I've heard that you're good on the comb and greaseproof paper harmonica too, Christian  .

I learned recorder, tenor horn, clarinet and guitar at school and still play the guitar and clarinet a bit from time to time now. I've been trying to teach my youngest how to play guitar recently. Oh boy, that's hard work!!

I am predominantly a singer (classically trained), but I can also play the flute and the piano.

I play recorders (sopranino, soprano, treble, tenor and bass) and sometimes play in a group with 4 other people (husband and 3 daughters).

I am Director of Music at a church and run a reasonable choir with about 30 regular members and an 'orchestra' of sorts.

I can play a little on the church organ too, but not much. Would be more if I practised . . .

It's lovely there are so many musicians here! :D

Wow! :o . I am currently saving up for a Lap Harp to use in the folk group. Could you give me some info on them? Or tell me where you got yours from? Is it hard to learn if you play the piano?

I'd never have guessed that so many people played so many instruments!

I can play piano

Flute

Alto sax and drums ( kit and classical percission/timps)

though I can get a tune out of most things except an oboe and french horn!

DD is like me and plays Flute, Alto sax, keyboard and irish harp plus Bass guitar.

Ds used to play clarinet but is now learning piano instead.

Maybe it comes from the musical welsh side of the family?:think:

Another singer here. I've been in a choir for ten years, but only started having singing lessons last year.

I won two cups at the local music festival  and I'm just preparing to do Grade 6 singing in July.

Mezzo soprano - what are you Ginette? Bet you're a soprano!

I've got a secondhand big zither which is very easy as the notes are written under the strings! It's like this:

And a cymbala which doesn't have many strings and is therefore quite easy, plus some of them come with song sheets to slide under the strings too:

If you can play piano I can't imagine you having much trouble withh either of these - piano is much harder. I actually prefer the cymbala as it's quite tinkly and sweet in sound. You can get them from a tenner upwards. Some toy shops even do them.

Try Hobgoblin Music or The Music Room in Cleckheaton for more information. Both have websites.
