Help Please

Recommended Posts

Hi its margaret,

Redwing was so helpful this afternoon when I was at work...

Just got home and Tallulah is dead, only had them since Saturday, dont know what to do.

Have taken her out of eglu, but now Lavender is on her own.

Omlet are closed, do I put Tallulah in bin? What about Lavender, didnt think you should have one on her own, but after reading all the threads about introductions, dont have space for any more. Do I return her give up or what, havent even had them out of eglu yet as was told to wait the 5 days.

Any suggestions PLEASE.

Margaret.

Hi Margaret,

So sorry to read your sad news - what an awful start to a life with chickens, but please don't give up. Did Omlet supply your hens or did you get them from a breeder ? I would contact whoever in the morning and explain what has happened, and I'm sure they will replace poor Tallulah. In fact, it might be best if you got 2 more hens, in order to avoid this situation again. As regards introductions, could you divide up the eglu run, to separate the new girls from Lavender until they have got used to each other? Some on the forum have done this using canes, and it seems to work very well.

As regards disposing of Tallulah, you can put her in the bin, take her to the vet for cremation or bury her in your garden - but I would mention it to Omlet/breeder first, in case they wish to deal with it.

Let us know what you decide to do. Best wishes to you and Lavender for happier times.

Oh, Margaret, I'm so sorry :cry: . What a horrible shock for you so soon after getting your girls :( .

You must let Omlet know asap and they will give you a replacement (but if you do have room 2 would probably be a good idea).

If you can get the replacement(s) very quickly, it may be that the introduction will go smoothly as your remaining girl hasn't been with you long.

If you do bury poor little Tallulah make sure it's deep and covered up with slabs or something to prevent foxes digging her up :( . The bin may be the easiest method of disposal although I know it seems odd putting a pet out with the rubbish.

Don't despair, you have just been extremely unlucky :( .

What a sad start to being a chook mum  , I'd have thought if you got another one or ideally two, in the next day or so the introductions should be fairly easy as they will all still be relative newbies.

Tallulah must have had a problem which she hid to have died so suddenly, unfortunately these things do sometimes happen, they are good little actresses. RIP little girl.

{{{hugs}}} to you and Lavender, Margaret
