Valkyrie
The thin legged pea bodied spiders that make cobwebs everywhere are . . . Cobweb Spiders! No sooner do you wipe them away, the webs are everywhere. We only had them here in the last couple of years - I think one sneaked in from somewhere. Before we only had the house spiders(Fred - male or female) indoors and these little toads keep eating my Freds too. Small round bodies and spindley legs that are usually in the garden are Harvestmen. I love the zebbies, but we had much more at my mums house than here, although we get a fair few small ones. We also get a huge fat bottomed type of spider that looks like velvet and they feel so soft. Wolf spiders aplenty in the garden - or there used to be - BC! I rather like the chubby crab spiders - pale green or white. But there are some gorgeous greeny ones in shrubs like spirea. But remember "If you want to live and thrive, let a spider run alive". I do usually but if they get in the way of the hoover and I don't see them . . well . . . Otherwise if they are spiders I like and I just get a glimpse of one disappearing you will hear me going "ooooh so sorry spidey".

Happy chickens!
I don't think that snakes are evil - but have a real phobia about them - once had to wake a next door neighbour up at 6am as I got up for work as one of my cats had brought in a slow worm and it was harmlessly wriggling around the bathroom (yes I know they're legless lizards, but it's all the same to my ancient instincts....) Lesley, I've found over the years that it's not so bad if you expect the thing you don't like - it's when surprised that the worst reactions happen (um heavy tables and drinks knocked over when the guy on holiday brings a snake round for people to have their picture taken with ), but if you can say good morning to your fly catchers and make yourself look at them, it does de-sensitise you over time. I can now go into the reptile house at the zoo and not run out screaming.....!
Lesley
erm......I'll stick with the vacuum cleaner method I think......
Alis girls
Dont like Daddy long legs either, they always seem to fly at my head and I worry they will get in my hair Walked into a man in an East End market who was wearing a big snake once, I bounced off its coils screamed and ran for my life. Panic attack followed and hyperventilated. Cant visit reptile house at zoo, kids come out and regale me with tails of giant pythons etc
Yorkshire Pudding
I don't mind snakes at all, I have held them and touched them quite happily. I really am not keen on spiders but I have to be the brave one as OH is petrified of them since a close encounter with an unexpected tarantula gave him a fright a few years ago. I never squash them though, I use the 'glass and postcard' trap and put them outside. We don't get the zebra spiders here, shame, I quite liked those ones! I discovered the other night that my big brave husband is also not fond of large fluttery moths... so I am now promoted to Chief Spider and Moth catcher . chickencam
I can cope with the silly pea bodied ones with k"Ooops, word censored!"bly knees but I don't like big black ones and as for those big stripy ones that appear from now where in the garden at this time of year A huge black spider ran over my foot in the lounge the other night, OH removed it between a cup and a magazine, then he shook the magazine at me the way men do and I screamed tripped over a foot stool and nearly knocked myself out on the fireplace. OH was apologetic he said he didn't think i would react that way because I am not that girly normally but the spider was very very large and it had crawled on me Our house is full of spiders i think it is because it is half rendered and they nest under the bottom edge of the render, then come into the house. Paola
There is a spider living in the wing mirror on my car, its been there several months Its safe, I never bother washing the car I had one of those for ages and it survived the car wash When I was driving it would come out, prob realize that we were on the move and go back in. I cannot remember what we called it
stoice
I hate spiders too. Just like joojoo, I've just googled some and wish i hadn't. One thing I've just found out though. I get the thin long legged, tiny body type spiders in house everywhere, the harvestman type ones. So i just googled harvestman and they're also called daddy long legs. But the crane fly is ALSO called a daddy long legs. Hate them both, but just thought that it was odd they should share the same common name. Seagazer
Ooh don't get me started on crane flies or moths or butterflies - yuk
Yorkshire Pudding
Butterflies? I've come across people who don't like moths, spiders and craneflies before, but you're the first not to like butterflies.
Seagazer
I know I am sad. You should see me at the moment, I do a little dance everytime one comes fluttering towards me. I think they look lovely but just could not stand one near me. I think it comes from having holidays in very old caravans as a kid, you know when they had gas lights (yes I am that old ) so you would have to have the window open because of the smell of the gas. Then you would get all and sundry flying in and thats not even mentioning the toilet and shower block! Do you risk going in at night without the light on or know that the light will attract the creepy crawlies?
Scramble
I put the light on...but lift my feet up
Geoid
A few years ago, I picked up a spade or something, there was a spider on it, and the damn thing bit me, hurt too! Afterwards, I had spider hairs sticking out of my hands (like in Spiderman, but I couldn't climb walls ) But after the spider bit me, I dropped the spade, which killed the spider. Geoid
I don't mind spiders, I just don't like them when they bite or are soo big that they could eat you.
Scramble
I have never seen a spider that was so big it could eat a human.....unless you count in Harry Potter
Valkyrie
Terrantulas are soft - I think they are more pet sized rather than creepy crawly - and they can do Mexican waves too - especially the Mexican red knees. I tried to help a little fat white crab spider - it was on some steps leading to the leisure centre in Basingstoke. I thought it would get trodden on, so I gently tried to usher it to the bushes at the side. The little toe rag bit me. Well, that's gratitude for you. It then scuttled off to the side on it's own, while I had a slight tingling sensation in my finger. Didn't hurt, just felt a bit odd - it didn't last long though - by the time we were in the pool it was fine.
Scramble
Are you sure you're not Spiderwoman? Pet sized? My mum wouldn't believe me when I told her that
