AnnieP
I'm stuck at home! Floods have blocked the road, we had a landslide at the bottom of the paddocks onto the railway line and a train hit a tree this morning around 6.00am. Luckily it was a rail sweeper and "Ooops, word censored!"ody was hurt: Its still de-railed and has damaged 120 sleepers, which will need replacing once they have got the train out of the way! So OH is at home too as no trains! So, we now have Network Rail men everywhere, 20 or so of their vehicles parked on our yard and the road, crawling all over our paddocks and using our big barn as a tea room! They've closed to road whilst the lifting gear comes in. We are stranded for at least 5 hours! Hooray! Here are some very boring piccies, but I expect Dan will like them..... You can still just about see the chooks in the last one...
Mel (& Paul)
Aha - so the rain dance might not have worked but the "dont let Annie have to go back to work until she is ready dance" certainly did Glad no one was hurt - are you busy making tea for the workers
Popcorn
Oh Annie - make the most of it! How often do you get a free morning off school. I bet you're the talk of the classroom this morning!
Cinnamon
Looks like one of those unexpected lucky, wonderful days Annie - make sure you enjoy it & don't spend all your time making tea for the men

The Dogmother
Didn't you see Railway Children? She waved her petticoat to warn the trains about the landslide.

AnnieP
Is the Eglu in a car park?? That's my yard! It just looks like a car park today! There's normally donkeys and horses on it!
chocchick
Kind of horse-park then I was looking at the 2nd photo thinking look there's an eglu!

AnnieP
Here's the latest picture: They have cleared most of the track, got the train re-railed, but just got to get a crane in to drag this tree off the line. (and repair all the sleepers)! We now have a soup kitchen in our barn and a portaloo has just been delivered! Looks like they may be here some time! Have also just heard from the guy in charge that the local farmer is demanding money for them to take the crane on their land to pull up the tree! Meanwhile the west coast mainline to London isn't running! Aren't some people mercenary? Do you think we should make them pay for using our yard? Snowy
Brilliant pics Annie - hope you're enjoying your day off work!! Re charging - maybe a tin with "all donations to BHWT/Donket sanctuary" in a strategic position, ie near the portaloo?
Guest
Or maybe a free train ticket voucher?
Mel (& Paul)
definitely a charitable donation to the BHWT / Donkey Santuary / Annie's chocolate fund

chelsea
Annie I am so green... I would have loved to have been that driver and seen you waving your petticoat..! (and I would love to live near a railway line and have this kind of adventure going on)! It's a Class 67 (125mph freight locomotive); you have to get the number for me and get some more snaps! I grew up for 15 years in the village "Station Masters House", you literally had the garden and the main southwest line railway right next to the house. in the huge back garden there was a gate that went onto the grass verge and down to the track below...about 50 yards away was a small station (which is now closed). People used to laugh at how close it was to the railway, the ornaments/books on the shelfs shook every so many minutes as the trains went past. We were very used to it though

theherd123
WOW Annie - what an interesting day off work you have had!!!! Not every day you have a landslide, train derail, turn the donkeys patch into a car park AND have a portaloo delivered!
