The 'Hands Up' Thread 2009

Recommended Posts

Noo - not yet although I considered turning the aga on - then changed my mind as it will be too hot (living in hope!). When we say that someone is nesh we mean that they feel the cold easily. This sums me up as most of this summer my family have had t shirts on and maybe a hoodie, whereas I have a longsleeved tshirt/wickingtop. followed by a short-sleevedtshirt over the top and a hoodie as my starting point. I always say it is due to me being brought up in hotter climes - the scientist in me knows better.

I reckon that Omletina will be last if I remember last year's thread correctly.

OMG we were totally WIPED after teaching on Thursday and last night I was like a Zombie. I can't believe how much my feet ached after one day in "those" heels - I was wearing them all week at the end of last term. Even the kids noticed Friday that I ended up wearing my sensibly "teacherly" shoes!

We moved in here in July, and I think there have only been a couple of days when we DIDN'T have the heating on, for at least the second half of the evening!

I have several lines of defence, m'lud:

1. This is Scotland.

2. The heating is linked to the woodburner and we had to get the hang of it when we moved in, and before it was vital... (to be honest the novelty of burning stuff hasn't worn off yet!)

3. The woodburner/heating system is somewhat byzantine and the landlords have banned us from turning off the heating pump (due to experience with previous tenants; I've no idea what happens if you do).

4. OH has a version of 'nesh' that involves him feeling the damp very acutely.

5. We have to dry the washing somehow.

hmm having recently started a business that is somewhat seasonal and just starting to pick up I am not impressed by such an early arrival of Autumn. Roll on Spring I say - I need to make some money so that I can afford to take unpaid leave to get my plastic surgery done (which will then mean I have to employ someone to run the summer season as I will be totally incapable of heavy lifting for a looong while!)
