So 4 chickens can happily live in it without an extension? Because as it and the classic states 'for 2-4 birds'. But i thought the extension was recommended for 4 birds with the classic?

 

My thoughts exactly! It doesn't look much bigger than the classic run so would assume extensions would be needed for more than a couple?

Well, four chickens will fit in the house ok, but I'd only keep 2-3 in the run if they weren't allowed to free range at all.

 

If you look on the shop it says the Eglu Go can house UP TO 3 medium size chickens.

Mmmmmm.... I'm thinking it's a perfect bantam house for Keema and his intended girlfriends. Luuuurve the yellow but still worried about the light levels (esp with a cockerel).

 

Red or green cubelet it is then :think: It'll butt up to the second-WIR-in-progress beautifully.

 

And those of you who have seen my garden will know how ridiculous two WIRs in such a small space is going to be :lol: Hubby is now OBSESSED with Seramas.

Omletina, looking at the photos again (was trying to work out how the 'interchangeable panels work), it looks like the Go has a grey interior shell/frame, which the panels fit onto; wouldn't this be an ideal place for mites to lurk, or are the panels easy to remove when you clean it?

I asked could you take them off to clean and was told you didn't need to. They said over the years they've realised the roof and sides hardly get dirty and need cleaning, so you can just wipe the inside. It looked like they were screwed on inside onto a metal plate type thing, so maybe mites could go inside? :think:

i saw the GO today.....seems one of the main advarntages for omlet is that it flatpacks, so delivering across the uk (or even the world!!!!!) will be far simpler. Speaking to them they suggested 2 hens would be happy in the run, though it would accomodate up to 4 if the house is in a wir for example.

The droppings tray slides out in a familier manner as do the plastic perches, the nest box is right up the front with a familier style eglu flippy door thingy. Available in three colours, red green and yellow.

as the run is flatpacked you can put the door anywhere you want. Also no grub/glug, a conventional tray hooked on the run is used so may get wet or used as a perch!

 

On the face of it it looks like a budget eglu with huge logistical benifits to eglu....however i think it was only about £40 cheaper....so I doubt its going to affect eglu sales. It looked perfect however as a broody coop or sick bird retreat.

Thanks Guys, my worries, reading what Lewis has posted are that the space between the panels and the framework could be a lurking place for mites.

 

Not casting nasturtiums here as I haven't see a Go yet, but just wondering. :?

 

 

But creepy crawlies can get in the classic joins too....so I wouldn`t say that would be a deciding factor on which one I would buy.

They can be removed, I think by just removing a few screws at the top.

 

They just meant for a normal clean out, you'd normally take the shell off a classic eglu and clean it out, but with the Go, you just wipe the inside. I think for a big clean you'd take it apart and jet was it all.

 

I hadn't thought about mites until Clare said.

Thats my understanding anyway :)

Is it double skinned? if not hpw warm/cold will it be?

I am assuming it was tested!?

 

I think the difference / issue is that the 'classic' and cube are a sealed double skin i.e. molded as one piece, but this seems to be a grey inner skin, with a 2nd coloured skin attached to it, so it would appear things (mites?) could get between the two skins - they are selling as a feature you could just but different colour outer skins to change the colour.

 

So in terms of hot/cold it is two skins, but as they are not one molded unit the jury is still out on the mite issue.

Given all the feedback on this thread, makes you wonder why Omlet don't do a bit of road testing before launch with trustable Omleteers. Lots of good suggestions on here and lots of valid doubts. Would make sense to make use of a panel of loyal, honest, supportive, target market folks to get things very right before launch... :?
