Omlet new product launch....what what what?!!!

Recommended Posts

Aesthetically, not as nice as the original, better price, and I would have loved to have a side door on my run.

Any chance they might design eglu original run panels with a door in at some stage, so if you have an original but want a side door, you could just buy a single panel and swap it in?

Glad this wasn't available when I bought my eglu 3 months ago, as I would have wanted the original, but felt morally obliged to go for the cheapest for the family bank balance's sake.

Good that Omlet are trying to bring the cost of chicken keeping down though, making it under £300 is a good psychological marketing ploy in a recession.

I'm still intrigued by the run measurements, as I think it does look narrower as Claret said, so I think the overall run area may possibly be smaller than the eglu.

I think I need to see one in the 'flesh' as it were to get a better idea of it, but would find it annoying having to take off the back every time to get chickens out. Especially as every morning I open up the eggport door to s"Ooops, word censored!"e off roosting bars and then pull out the tray...Can you actually pull out the tray on its own? I couldn't work it out from photos.

Yes, you definitely can do that. I saw it done :)

I don't see that taking the back off is that much different to the egg port, tbh. It was hinged, so you'd maybe need more space at the back.

I really like the back door opening and pull out slidey tray, but prefer the 'classic' shaped eglu and the old style grub + glug aswell.

Me too. Totally agree with you. Nice price reduction, nice ease of cleaning with the one tray, but the rounded shape is so much more touchy feely. Looks a bit too sci-fi cold and angular in shape.

I have made a similar tray system, and it's part plastic, for a bantam/broody ark from an old guinea pig run which weighed in at around £80, so it's not the best value as a broody alternative.

Might appeal more to boys wanting to keep chickens though.

At a guess I would say they are fairly light........I have an (cube orange) and that is quite light.........in fact in the middle of summer I have to put and old blanket over it at night or the girls wake up and start shuffling about and squawking at about 3:30 in the morning :D:!:

.....the design of the Go is quite different from the Classic, in the case of a yellow one, the outer panels come away in three sections (so you can interchange the colours and have a yellow top, green side and red side if wanted!) and the underneath part is grey plastic, so it's a bit different from the way a Classic is double skinned, so they may be darker inside than an equivalent yellow Classic would be.

Does this make sense?

In answer to other queries on this topic, the run seems a lot bigger than the Classic one. It is slightly bigger, but not much, but the fact that it has more upright sides and a flat top makes it higher inside overall, as it doesn't slope inwards so much, so I think the chickens would feel they had more room inside the Go run than with a Classic. The actual house seems bigger as well as it doesn't slope at the back.

I really liked it. The plastic has a different feel to it and it's made in a different way from the Cube and Classic, which means each piece will be identical so it will go together easily, plus it is flat pack.

Hope this answers a few queries. I'm at the NEC again tomorrow, so can answer any questions anybody else might have?!

I still love the Classic though!!

I saw it and like it more than from the photos 8) I was so close to buying one for dinner chickens, but then mother didn't like the idea  but she likes the cube now to replace the wendy house

I think I'd buy one and put it in a WIR without a run as its such a good price

The back isn't hinged, it comes away, so you wouldn't need the room to open it fully the length of the door. There's no sizes in the brochure :(

I think it'd be a good cockerel box as the inside sides and roof is grey plastic, and not the colour of the outside so it would be darker, and the ventilation holes are slits. The door also shuts 'better' as its not curved edges, they are flat and shut tight.
