Really unhappy to be missing out

Recommended Posts

I've had tickets to see Muse at the NIA in Birmingham for months. I have so wanted to see this band for such a long time. Then swine flu came along. I was assured I'd be able to have my jab in plenty of time to go to this concert but...no. The surgery have told me that they haven't had a supply, and that I can't just make an appointment but have to wait to be called in for a jab by the PCT before I can get one.

All of which means I won't get a jab in time for the concert, which is next Tuesday.

I am not panicking. I have cystic fibrosis, and last time I got normal flu I nearly died. Sadly I don't think a concert is worth dying for, no matter how much you want to see the band.

So I'm a very unhappy chicken-mummy :cry::cry::cry::cry:

I will get a jab, but unless I get it tomorrow, I won't be immune by next Tuesday. They haven't even got the supply of the vaccine in yet :(

I've shut myself away for months, only going to things that are outdoors, or non-crowded. It is very frustrating to miss out on something you've looked forward to so much.

Just realised you'd said the vaccine wasn't in and came back to correct myself :)

I don't suppose it counts as enough of an emergency for them to see if they could source some by tomorrow :(

How about a mask? - are any of them good enough to prevent you potentially catching swine flu?

:( What about phoning Good Hope (or Robert Peel but don't know if they would) and see if they can do anything?

The PCT could be worth phoning to see if they can try and do something aswell if they have some at another surgery or another local PCT.

Mom works for the PCT but in Brum not Tamworth.

The picture goes like this: The PCT are overseeing supply to GP's so NONE of the local GP's will get it until they are ready. The PCT will send out appointment letters to all the priority patients, and you can't get a jab until you get a letter. So none of the local GP's have any say in the matter :( And the letters won't get sent out until they have finished sending out the seasonal flu letters and they've only just started sending those out :(

I have contacted the CF clinic at Heartlands Hospital, but they don't have any vaccine as it is the job of the GP to vaccinate patients, and the CF clinic aren't allocated any vaccine for the CF patients in their care.

It seems like I'll get a jab eventually, but not in time for next week.

Just wanted to add my condolenses at missing probably the greatest rock band on the planet :?

My eldest is seeing them at the O2 (travelling there on her own by train  )

I am not happy, but she is desperate to see them. Her boyfriend is seeing them in Birmingham too, & has a spare ticket, but she has work that day

I am really really sorry, you must be totally gutted.

But like you say, your health is simply not worth the risk :(

I feel for you too - but maybe it's a blessing - there is so much going round at the moment OTHER than the swine flu that you would be at risk anyway. Maybe you are meant to go to summer concerts!

Sick list was HUGE at work today and from what we could work out ("Ooops, word censored!"ody TELLS us anything) only a couple of them have swine flu, lots of chest infections too - which I know are bad for CF sufferers.

Forgot to say - see if you can shift your ticket on Ebay - you might even make a profit - its happened to me that I've had to not go at the last minute so I've put tickets on 24 hour auctions either offering collection only or special delivery and I@ve done pretty well out of them.

What a shame. I was surprised how poorly my normally robust teenager was when he got swine flu so I wouldn't risk it without good precautions.

If you do decide to wear a mask it must be FFP3 rated. There are places that will deliver quickly.

Also you must wash hands thoroughly for quite a while in hot water and not touch your face (especially not mouth and eyes).

Surgical masks are almost no use (except slightly on an infected person to reduce risk of them infecting others) and because people fiddle with them thus touching their face they can make risk of infection higher.

MUSE is a great band, its a shame you may miss them, but we cannot get hold of vaccines yet either, the local radio is telling folks that all the front line staff were vaccinated weeks ago but OH NO WE HAVEN'T. Like you I need mine because I have asthma & working in a GP surgery where everyone coughs all over me every day I could do with the jab soon!!!!

I hope you can sell on your tickets

If I was in a rock band such as Muse and received a letter from a fan such as yourself, I might be tempted to jump to the rescue and offer replacement tickets to a later venue with access all areas and such like  and with the power of Omlet........anything is possible, almost.

Just a thought, but worth a try.

Sorry you've been disappointed but as you say it really isn't worth risking going if your not covered.

Kev.

do it!! I know how miserable it is when you have to cancel something like that - in my case it was the Donnington rock/metal festival years back.. the onyl one in their histrory to be cancelled :(

But definately contact Muse - I'm sure they'd love to know how much you want to see them and may be able to tell you when their next available dates are.. you never know, they may even offer to let you in free after such a disappointment  (it has happened - a friend of mine had to cancel going to a concert because of illness and the band in question were lovely to her)

I'd contact Muse. I wonder if the venue would have any area they could put you that would be away from the crowds, like an executive box or something? You never know.

My hubby works in the hospital in Cardiff, and a colleague had the Swine Flu jab and the normal flu jab both done yesterday whilst at work, so they obviously have some vaccine's in Cardiff.

Doc, will you be getting tickets for one of next Septembers stadium gigs?

They go on sale tomorrow at 9 8)

The daughter is gutted that she cannot go to Wembley as its on a Saturday & she will have work (already has all her holiday booked up!), but she did say that they were amazing when she saw them last week, & she has not as yet removed her new Muse hoodie :lol:

I'm not buying tickets to anything until I've had the swine flu jab, just in case I can't get it! Still waiting to hear when our surgery is going to start doing the jabs, let alone when I'm going to be called in for it. It makes my blood boil that neighbours with trivial conditions are getting theirs (or worse, refusing to have it!) when I can't get it.

I'd love to buy tickets, but simply can't take the risk - I may never get the jab at this rate!

nochucksyet - I was brought up in London/Surrey and DH is from London/Kent. I moved to Birmingham over 20 years ago as a good job came up, and ended up staying. When I met DH he had also been in the Midlands for over 20 years. He lived in Tamworth and I moved up there with him. I hardly ever go to London these days - I like to be able to see fields from our house!

Docsquid - the whole swine flu thing is a mess - we start tommorrow and because the way they have packaged the vaccine means you cant do ad hoc like you can the seasonal one. I think you are a Doctor and forgive me if you're not or i'm talking rubbish but they come in a multidose vial - its mixed with another vial and there are 10 doses in a vial and if you only use one its a waste. Seasonal flu come in pre packed syringes - 1 at a time - stab your victim (or should I say patient) and they are done. so about 40 or more have to be booked at a time. then theres kids doses, people on chemo and radiotheraphy doses and the over 80's get in some cases 4 lots of one type of swine flu vacc. Thats without the egg allergy patients who need a egg free type. I hope you get it soon :)
