Space Chick
I read so many posts about chickens being addictive and people increasing their numbers (myself included), so I thought I would start a thread asking how many you started with and how many you have now (Basically I am nosey but I think if I am interested then others might be too ) So, I started with 4 in a cube and now have 12 in a WIR Over to the rest of you.......!! Patricia W
Well, I started with 3 and 1 eglu. I now have 10 and 2 cubes and 2 eglus (although one eglu ) is going elsewhere. BUT, this weekend 3 are going back ( they crowed!) so back to 7 - with lots of room for vacancies! Oh - and no eggs - stopped for the winter or too young. jos
I started with 5 speckledies three years ago then, when I had got to grips with chicken keeping, took delivery of 5 ex batts, then 4 more and then.... 4 more! But some of the chooks have died so I have 12 at the moment in 3 coops .
Old Speckled Hen
I started with three second hand and one eglu. Chooks were foxed and I sold the eglu ...why Then I got a wooden coop and four chooks. Shopping for inspiration at the National Show for two more and hoping for three ex batts next year when it's warmer. Three or four eggs weekly (from 2 dozen a week) as they are or have just moulted. (Crikey, don't they look awful when the feathers go ) Beekeeping course booked for April. Bees in the summer?
Egluntyne
I started with 4 and now have 20. I have had as many as 24 before now. I had the first ones in an Eglu with extended run. I have lost count of the no of Eglus I have. I also have a cube and a WIR
Chunky_Monkey
I started off with 3 chickens and an in June. Then I got another for 4 ex-batts at the end of July/Early August. I now have a and 8 chickens. All in the space of 5 months. I'm obsessed with chickens now and I would really love loads more, but my mum won't let me. 9 chickens is the maximum I can have, unfortunately. Griffin
I now have 41 SNAP! 41 here at the moment, I think. Started off with five in August last year, soon became addicted and bought another five in November. Got an incubator for Christmas and have had several hatches since. I've kept some, sold some, and eaten some! I bought a few chicks to keep a singleton I hatched company too. Adopted three ex-batts in May. All are spread between three large wooden coops and they all free range all day together. I even have an empty coop in the garden too In my garage I have a Silkie and her five chicks that are about nine weeks old now. I've tried putting her back with the rest of the flock but there are a few trouble makers (namely a few meat boys who'll meet their maker sooner rather than later if they persist!) and she just gets stressed so she's back with her chicks. I've been asked to take a Pekin next week so I'll introduce the pair of them to each other then there's safety in numbers before they join the rest of the gang. So next week it'll be 42 but only temporarily because four are leaving on the 21st and some of the boys are almost ready to depart for my freezer. 18 eggs going in the incubator on Saturday..... Now where's the form for DEFRA................

It all looks so bad when you put it in writing! but hey, here goes Got a cube and five chickens in March this year and lost 1 the first night! Lost another due to a prolapse so down to 3 Straight away we got another two making 5. Bought a wooden house and got six more. Then wonderful OH built lovely big WIR and put both houses in there and all 11 girls promptly decided to sleep in the cube together leaving me with an empty house Soooooo, got my 5 ickle bantams making 11. Wasnt happy leaving them in a wooden house though so got them a lovely pink eglu, now, that leaves me with an empty wooden coop - again
