Pekin pics to brighten your day!

Recommended Posts

I had an early finish at work today, so took the opportunity to fit my newly purchased tarpaulin to the side of the WIR (see this tread for pictures). While I was at it, I couldn't resist taking a few snaps of the Pekins who are now 20 weeks old and fully grown.

Liquorish is still looking great, but its Snickers who now rules the roost, having risen from the bottom of the pile since the other two boys went to new homes. He looks good and sounds great! The girls have all now got red face furniture, so eggs shouldn't be far away - yum.

They are so yummy, thanks for posting the pictures. :D

So where are the pictures of Fifi and Anna :eh::lol:

Anna has just completed her annual moult and now looks really good again, complete with wonderful fluffy knickers all around. Fifi, on the other hand, has just started her moult and looks absolutely dreadful :?. Anna and Fifi are inseparable for the most part, but with Fifi looking so 'oven ready', they are not a photogenic couple at the moment!

Omg i saw these and fell in love - what type are they - am i right in guessing that they are partridge pekins and one of them has frizzle? I really want some - where did you get them and are you selling any fertilise eggs next year :D?

Yes, they are Gold Partridge Pekins, and Liquorish is a frizzle. You can follow their history from hatching to a adulthood in a little picture slideshow I've created ** click here **.

I got eight chicks as 1-day-old hatchlings back in June. My broody Orpington was sat on 6 Light Sussex E-Bay eggs which didn't come to anything. When they failed to hatch, I got the hatchlings to compensate. We lost one early on, but the other seven grew to maturity, four boys and three girls. Two of the boys recently went to new homes, leaving me with the three girls (Biscuit, Buttercup and Caramel) and two boys (Liquorish and Snickers). We'll have to see how two boys works out, so far it's OK. I'm not planning on selling any of the eggs as fertile breeding stock, we primarily have chickens for eating eggs. However, if anyone would like to try their luck, I'm sure we'll have some spare eggs next spring :).

Just a quick, and very excited update, I got my first Pekin egg on Friday, which was eaten on Saturday. I thought that might be a one-off, while systems got into gear, but lo and behold, I got another one on Sunday - yah 8).

Great looking Pekins Florence, soooo fluffy!
