Snow

Wow Sha that's a lot of snow  ...what a difference a few miles makes.

I have ventured out this morning as DS needed a lift...that was fun  Main roads okish but the side roads were lethal even with the car in it's winter setting, all available traction control on and in a low ratio gear setting :anxious:

Tescos had run out of milk so have organised remaining teenagers into 2 groups...one lot to the corner shop for milk, the other lot have been armed with shovels and instructions to clear drive, pavement and road as it will be impossible to get out tomorrow when it all freezes overnight.

Snuffleberry (Sam the Pup) has been out playing in the snow, well slush more like. He's having a great time...although there's nearly as much slushy snow in the kitchen as there is in the garden

Been out building a snow man, its a few inches deep, but its not good for making snow men ... have made the body but going back out in abit to put the head on :D

We attempted a snow chicken aswell

14 inches! I bet its realy daunting

No milk is really bad aswell :? Just seen some really dramatic people walk past with Te$co bags, rucksacks and hiking sticks  Father came back from work early and hit the wall pulling onto the drive because it was so icy on the pavement ... wall, car + him are all ok though :)

Well this is interesting- my car is abandoned half a mile away, my husband is flying into Heathrow in about 2 hours, all the roads are blocked (he took the pickup to the airport so I'm stranded) our lane is impassable we have about 12-18 inches of snow. My younger son has made a piste outside and he and my BIL next door are making a ramp jump for the snowboard 8) I wouldnt mind but I was on my way to the shop when I got stranded! No bread, no dog food  and a post-Xmas empty store cupboard.

At least the haybarn is full so the ponies are fine!

Love the doggie pictures! Chelsea, we lost our GSD aged 15 last year so your picture of Bracken is very poignant for me. Calli loved the snow. Much as I love our Cocker Spaniel, Holly, my heart belongs to GSD's.

Anyway, latest weather from Abingdon. After a brief respite of about an hour,we now have bizzard conditions returning. Really heavy flakes again. Chooks and cat throughly disgusted and even Holly getting fed up with snowballs in her coat.

Still, it looks pretty...

It's still snowing. Murray cleared the drive enough for my car to get out and then we started on the road. Some neighbours came out to help and we have cleared a lot of the turning circle and made tracks down to the road - then we stopped because there was nowhere else to go. By the time we finished the snow had made a light cover over the bits we'd already done. Another neighbour who's had a hip operation made liquid refreshments and her husband added whishky to some. Of course I said yes rather, please. We have left the drive ways of those who couldn't be bothered to help because it was hard enough doing what we could. Murray I think deserves a medal because he started a couple of hours before anyone - and most of that was our own driveway and part of the joint area. I did a bit more but then it came over rather dark again, so went to take the girls some warm tea before bed. Then I made my snow angel and tried a snowman but the snow is too wet (although the sound is lovely). It's coming down thick and fast now. Apparently our neighbour measured 11 inches in her back garden and 8 on the top of her wheelie bin. I guess it's been drifting. And the wet stuff is settling again.

We have had heaps of snow here, and are completely snowed in. DS missed his vaccinations yesterday as we got stuck so am really hoping it clears soon so we can make the next appointment. 3 diggers came down the road late morning and cleared it and put grit down and now the snow has already covered it again. I love the snow but don't like being snowed in. :(

Rhapsody, they are lovely photos. I love the little Shetland pony in the snow!

It is starting to freeze here - not much snow but I guess much ice will form as the roads and pavements haven't cleared.

The tree surgeons stayed all day and pruned three trees and felled a fourth (a self-seeded wild cherry that was growing too close to the plum tree and gradually shading it out). We have a trailer full of wood chips for the chicken run and to mulch the veg beds.

I hope to get some winter photos tomorrow - today was too busy.

Its really tiny flakes that you can see if you look properly, but nothing worth gettin excited about

The roads look at lot better now, at least ours anyway ... maybe we'll be at school tomorrow
