bigmommasally
I thought you got amazing bargains too Emma. I am one of those who can't face the madness of the crowds so I choose to stay away from the shops in the sales - but it doesn't stop me from being at your canny bargains though. Guest
do you know what, I lied! I went to the garden centre today to get some bird seed and nuts to feed the birds and squirrels at the cemetry (in memory of my dad) and i bought a 2010 calender for £1.49 instead of £2.99! A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I went to people watch because I'm perverse and because I needed an open pharmacy. Bluewater in Kent (which I hate at the best of times) was rammed to the point of people parking on verges. Inside, half the shops had been cleared out of sale stock. It's madness. How many sponge tins or gift-packed shower gel baskets does the populace need? So much stuff and so pointless.
welovemarmite
I love a bargain but i cant abide the shops. i do have to go to hobbycraft in the morning though as i need some stitch holders to continue knitting hubbies jumper!! I will be brave!! Luckily its not in a town but at a garden centre complex so it should be much easier.... she hopes....
BarbaraJ
i have vouchers to spend but will wait till end of the week, its not the bargains i dislike its the crowds, can't be doing with pushing and shoving for something i didn't want really or need in the first place lol
Paola
The sales start on Christmas day here We went to our local mall to have our christmas lunch and I was shocked that everything was open like any other day. Very odd experience
ClaireG
I too love a bargain but can't stand the crowds. I need something to wear on New Years Eve though so will be venturing out at some point when i feel brave enough
The Dogmother
On Sunday, I was wondering if there'd been a crash on the M40, the queues southbound were so bad... turned out to be queues for Bicester Village! All 'saving money'... I am sure that by the time they'd factored in the time spent driving and queueing, trying to park etc, they won't turn out to be true bargains anyhow. Charlottechicken
Well done Emma, for having the foresight to do your preparation beforehand and single mindedness to only purchase what you needed, that's true sale shopping in my opinion! I've been into Birmingham today to see what was on offer. I lasted for around an hour before I was thoroughly bored and wanted to come home, but I stuck it out to go round a few more shops and convince myself there is nothing I need, and I hadn't missed any major bargains. I ended up in Primark and managed to purchase a couple of thick long sleeved tee shirts (I wear them for work as I hate blouses) in brown and teal for just £2 each and a grey vest top (£1.50) to go under a lovely charity shop bargain I picked up previously, all were full price with the extra VAT knocked off. They sell spaghetti strap tops for 99p in Primark too I strayed into House of Fraser and discovered Jimmy's Farm meat on sale in the food hall, that was a surprise. Mind you, I am holding out for Boots 75% off sale in mid January, I've guessed the date and have tentatively booked the day off work. I'll be after some cards and wrapping and around a tenner's worth of gifts for the coming year's birthdays

I went to lakeland at bicester today which was just a bit further south than bicester village. There were queues everywhere. I actually went to hobby craft so I could get some bits to continue knitting hubbies jumper. There were no people where i was as they were all in teh queue for bicester village. The queue for junction 9 of m40 which was caused by bicester village was back to junction 10.
Seagazer
We thought we'd have a little drive out and get my Christmas present (pandora bracelet - yipee) changed for the next size up. So wish we hadn't bothered. Queues everywhere to get into Bluewater. We managed to get a space and dashed to the shop, got YS some sushi and then hightailed it out of there. Absolutely manic. I like a bargain but I could have burst a blood vessel there were so many people.
docsquid
My ex MIL used to insist on taking her Christmas presents back on Boxing Day at the start of the sales so she could use the money to buy "bargains". She didn't want money, she wanted a present with a receipt so she could take it back! I'm not sure that to me, the savings are worth the hassle, although the online reductions can be very welcome if you were planning a purchase anyway. chelsea
I too love a bargain but can't stand the crowds. I'm the same - hate crowded shops! My money tree is bare at the moment so no shopping for me. Happy bargain hunting to those that do though.
Blackrocksrock
There are always online bargains!!!!!!! Emma.x I think you did well with your purchases and I love the online ones best when I dont have to go out in the cold!
craftyhunnypie
My sister has been Next in Hanley ( in the potteries ). Now that will be packed, as it's on a large retail park. The one I went to is only on a small retail park, so it was quiet. I'm waiting to hear what she managed to get. I've looked online at Next & I now want some Gretel crocs...£20 instead of £40. I can picture Achickychickychicken in a pair, with her gnome hat! I have problems with cold feet & chilblains & these look very cozy. Lewis
We did exactly the same as you this morning charlottechicken Mr brother went to London do we dropped him off at New St at half 9 and went shopping. Only spotted Jimmys Farm today too, picked up an events leaflet then realised its an old expired one Wasn't too busy to start off with, but we left at 1 and the queues up the expressway were really bad! Got a few really cheap wii games and mother got a frying pan and some other bits
Reikiranf
We went to Bluewater this morning just after it opened and it was already packed DH & I got a scarf each in M&S, mine was a lovely cashmere one that I wanted before Christmas but waited until it was in the sale. There were so many people there that I didn't even bother going in most shops & we had to queue to get out of the car park. I think I'll go to Eltham next time I go shopping as I often get a bargain there

docsquid
I succumbed to a pair of navy blue (smart) boots I've been watching for AGES and got for half price. I don't need them, but they will look very nice with several items of clothing that I own, so I went for it.
Chickvic
Took DD into Next - they hardly had anything left managed to come away with 3 tops.
Clur
I don't normally 'do' sales as I'm normally broke by January, but this year popped into town to meet the inlaws for coffee and went for a look in M&S. I picked up some nice tops for work and a lovely knitted jacket/cardi reduced from £35 to £12 but went through the till at 1p! That'll do me
