A horrible start to 2010

Recommended Posts

Well I don’t think much of 2010 so far! It’s been nothing but bad news :(

I had a phone call on 2nd Jan to tell me my Great Aunt died, (she’d died in August but no one on that side of the family thought to let me know and they only realised I didn’t know when they got my Christmas card to her). :(

On the 14th my FiL was taken ill and very sadly died that night (he was a very fit and healthy 78 yr old so this is a massive shock to us all), he died from Aortic Dissection. :( We've been busy organising the funeral and legal affairs and looking after MiL.

Today my 52 yr old brother was at hospital after suffering chest pains and breathlessness and has needed to have a stent put in his heart. I’ve just got back from seeing him at the hospital and we’re told he will be fine but obviously it’s very worrying - My dad died 29years ago aged 50 from a heart attack so my mum is very upset. :(

And not on the same scale but did my online self assessment last night and apparently I owe £662 tax on a measly £2250 self employed earnings!

Hopefully things can only get better from here on in!

(((hugs))) from me too, the only way is up from here I hope.

If it is any comfort to you my Dad had a stent put into one of his arteries after suffering with the symptoms that you describe, they didn't diagnose him until he had a massive heart attack, this all happened 6 years ago and he as been fit and well heart wise ever since infact he felt like a new man and took up hill walking again. He was 60, and otherwise a fit healthy man when he had his done.

Best wishes to your brother.

Oh Sally im so sorry to hear your 2010 has got off to a terrible start. :(

My uncle had a stent put in and is as right as rain now - he has to watch what he eats but he has bounced back really well.

Im sure things will start to look up soon.

Try and take care of yourself throughout all of this. In times of upset we tend to worry about everyone else & forget about looking after ourselves.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and support, its lovely to know so many care and good to read positive posts about life after having similar stent operations. :)

I probably wasn't clear in my original post about my tax, this is earnings on my second job so all my allowances are used up on my full-time job. I will query it with the IR but not just yet, I want to get the next couple of weeks over with before I start tackling tax men

Today started badly  - my car has sprung an oil leak over night so had to get that to the garage and leave it there - poor OH then had to drive me to work.

We've just spent the evening with the minister finalising the order of service for FiL's funeral next week - so that's something ticked off the list.

Good news re my brother - he is out of hospital already and resting up at home giving his lovely partner the run around, I saw him earlier this evening and he looks much better than he did last night so I'm sure he will make a good recovery. :D

What a lot to deal with in one go, you poor thing.

And the tax man, just the icing.

glad yr brother's getting repaired and better, the much maligned nhs are very good at lots of stuff now, and hearts are one area of tremendous success; give yr brother all our wishes, from a bunch of clucky chooks who still give a damn;

And hugs for you,

My brother had to be rushed back to hospital today - he was suffering chest pains and breathlessness again, turns out he had further narrowing of the artery and a tear in the artery wall, these should have been seen in the first angiogram (spelling?) but the consultant missed them. Big Bro was seen by a different consultant today and has had another stent fitted further along. Doctor said he was hours away from a massive heart attack :( We've just got back from seeing him at the hospital and he seems loads better this time round than he did last time so we're keeping our fingers crossed that its done properly now.

FiL's funeral is tomorrow, which will be hard, OH has been holding it together really well so far and am worried that tomorrow may be the breaking point for him. He is doing a tribute to his dad in the service and DD1 is reading a poem so just praying they can both get through it okay

I could really do with some of your lovely positive Omleteer vibes right now please :)

Sending you best wishes and lots of positivity. Tomorrow will be tough, I remember my OH reading out a poem written by ED at his Nan's funeral. I have found however that family funerals are usually a mix of tears and laughter, try to hang onto the good times.

Hope that your brother is properly sorted now, best wishes to him too.
