PurpleTree
Just watching this so about 10 minutes behind Did you see the and at the Royal show, next to his stand? I didn't see them They were quite interesting hen houses he'd made. Very clever, but don't know if I'd buy one, especially at that price
TheGirlsMum
I must admit I thought he was a tad expensive and trying to sell here in Cornwall.......I don't think so some how I thought Monty summed it up well saying that they wouldn't be able to live by the smallholding but they could live at the smallholding. Redwing
If you look at their website they are offering building design, garden design, wendy houses and hampers so it looks like they are having a real go at diversifying They seemed a bit wishy washy to me, I dont know if the 'up and down' enthusiasm will get them through it but wish them luck The original 'normal' chicken hoses he built would probably sell better
Lewis
Their website: The Wood Life They really are expensive, I know they must be a lot of work, but not expensive on materials. When the start of the Royal show was on, just as they were showing their white tent, there was a behind them (I think) and then in another shot was the . One of the ladies that was being interviewed looked like she was standing in front of a chicube aswell.
Guest
no-one mentioned his similarity to our Hugh! Is it just me who thought he looked like HFW then?
ClaireG
No, it wasn't just you Poet I said that to DH and DS to! I missed the eglus to
TheGirlsMum
I watched the beginning today on iplayer or whatever it is as I missed it last night and they are literally 6 miles down the road from us and the water they showed is where our boats live. Yes he does look lots like HFW (I missed off the W)
ubereglu
I'd rather make my own like one of his than buy the ones he made...they're so expensive! I'm dubious about his starter packs though...they're just chickens and a house...not any other accessories. I thought he looked like HFW too! Old Speckled Hen
I'd rather make my own like one of his than buy the ones he made...they're so expensive! I'm dubious about his starter packs though...they're just chickens and a house...not any other accessories. I thought he looked like HFW too! Can I hijack this for a minute. What's your Barnevelder like. I'm thinking of getting one in the spring. Thanks
Jools
OSH if you do decide on a Barnevelder, there's a chap at Endmoor who breeds them and very nice they are too. I picked up some RIR from him last summer for some friends and they're smashing birds.
missuscluck
Yes he did look like a HFW wannabe. They seemed like a nice bunch, but agreed that the houses are way over what anyone would buy for a hen house. Too arty and impractical in the long term. Wont look so good covered with hen poo and been out in all weathers. Agreed with Monty, cant see how thay can possibly make a living. Valkyrie
Hmmm I can see the chicken head and tail rotting fairly quickly. I'll stick to Omlet houses. I spotted the eglu - made OH rewind until I saw it. I got a bit of grief though! I am finding the programme interesting only in what not to do when getting a smallholding. I think they are all trying to do too much too soon and forgetting priorities. Says she with messy greenhouse and rubbish in the garden. MedusA
Did you see the and at the Royal show, next to his stand? I remembered seeing his stand at the Royal when I was visiting the Omlet stand (and doing some unofficial plugging for Omlet to a lovely couple who were interested, as all the official Omlet people were busy at the time). I also remember thinking the chicken wigwam was cute but pricy. Shame Monty wasn't there on the day I was.
The Dogmother
OSH, I have a barnevelder mini (from Lesley's breeders) we hatched her nearly 4 years ago - she's a lovely wee chook, very friendly but not the most prolific of layers. The colouring can vary though, so decide if you wnat a darker or lighter bird. This not very good photo shows her perching on The Boy's hand
Old Speckled Hen
oooooh thanks. She is very pretty
The Dogmother
Thanks, i'll tell her - that's not a very good photo as you can't reallly see her colouring. I will tryt o get another more recent one and PM it to you. She's quite dark as barnies go, but I like that.
Jools
I've hankered after bantam Barnies before, but was put off because they don't lay brown eggs (something to do with how they were developed from LF to bantam). Mind you, I've ended up with a trio of Indian Game who are as beautiful as Barnies and they lay ......... white eggs. OSH, the Endmoor chap said his LF Barnevelders were pretty much a match for his RIR in the laying stakes and I was very tempted.
Redwing
Is anyone watching this tonight??! Is it jst me or does this lady not have a clue beyond knowing a bit about alpacas?
Snowy
Only just found it, so missed the first bit. Can't believe the note she found pinned to her gate!!
Lesley
I started to watch it and then turned it off - why on earth did she think it was OK to build on agricultural land I'll watch the rest later - when I find some more patience
Redwing
If you start to watch again Lesley you'll lose it again The letter was unforgivable but the lady has made absolutely no attempt to be part of the community and has just done exactly what she likes where she likes, when she likes
