She's pretty much stayed in the eglu all day - I went up to give her a fuss and check her over, when I opened the egg port her neck went up, looking for something. She's just a bit muddy, no idea how she could have got under the shower curtain.

She's always slept under Pox on the roosting bars, but was flat in the nest box just ... probably a little bit shocked and trying to keep warm.

I would have gone out to get a replacement today, just thought it was too early and should think it over first.

Will try and go to the farm tomorrow and see if they have any banties, they don't always have banty hens on their own, just hybrids but I think they could bend the rules for ex-staff

Thanks everyone :)

- friends 1st comments whenever anything happens to the chucks, 'will you eat it?' ... would you eat your cat?

Oh Lewis, so sorry to hear this.

I am inclined to agree with you - I let ours FR, knowing there is a risk, but do all I can to minimise it. However they are so happy while FR, and not happy when in the run. If I could have a large WIR, it might be different, but I can't. I know I might lose them, but they are having a wonderful life.

You gave your chooks a brilliant life, and I hope Nugget gets a little friend soon.

Hugs. Sarah.

Lewis, you have had both sides of the luck coin today, huge {{{hugs}}} to you and little Nugget..and hopeful  for Pox.

I am of the same FR risk thought as you, whenever we are at home our girls FR in their pen for the PomPoms & the rest of the garden for the big girls, some of the time the dogs FR with them, which I think probably helps to deter the Red Coated One. As soon as I go out though, the chooks all get locked in their runs, like it or not :anxious:

I was a bit emotional :anxious:

It had that effect on lots of us I expect, Tasha you really are a star :clap::clap:

Lewis - we are absolutely gutted for you.

We are still new on here and it has been really touching to see what a great, supportive online community it is and such a kind, generous offer from Tasha (got somewhat emotional too).

Hope whatever you decide goes well for you and Nugget.

Thank you everyone - it really does help :)

I suppose we've been lucky for 4 years, and you don't ever think it'll happen to you. Its a hard lesson to learn.

I cleaned out the eglu on Friday so thats ok, just need to sort out the old wir ... and all the feathers :( - might leave them for the wind.

Nugget hopefully getting a friend this week from Tasha :D
