I'm absolutely gutted ...........................

 I knew something was wrong, couldn't hear/see them, went up and there is just feathers :'(

Nugget (buff rock bantam) is the only one left - untouched. She was on top of the run, under the shower curtain, no idea how she got under there.

One I'm most gutted about is the only school chick ... Purkinje :( .

Don't know what to do. Not upset, not angry, just gutted ... empty :|

Now there are all the What if's ... the WIR was built, they weren't FRing, we had gone to Reading.

I know she can't be on her own, she doesn't look touched at all, will sort her out in a bit.

Edit: Forgot to say the ducks were locked up in the side passage so are ok...

Lwescot, I am devastated for you, It is my worst nightmare, the fact they kill everything is what really angers me  I am so sorry I know we will all be thinking about you. The person who has been building my WIR for about 3 weeks still has not turned up so I am on high worry alert now

big hugs

Jackie

:( So sorry Lewis, I'm gutted for you. You must feel so numb today, but avoid the "what ifs" etc, they don't help.

Your hens had the best, best, best lives with you. Learn from this, grieve for your dear chickens, but don't go through blame nor let it put you off chickenkeeping.

Terribly sorry for you to be going through this Lewis & Nugget. R.I.P. lovely hens.

Thinking of you. xx

Been shopping to avoid thinking about it

No sign of Pox feathers and she's so fast it wouldn't surprise me if she got away, but could be anywhere ... not really holding out any hope :?

I know it might sound a bit selfish considering, or whatever, but I'd rather have them running around the garden FR'ing happily and enjoying being chickens rather than stuck in a run ... even if something like this could happen :(

Thanks everyone, it won't put me off - nothing could do that  Just will have to be extra careful now, get the WIR done asap and then sort out a fox watch

What do you think is the best thing to do?

I know its not best to have her on her own in the eglu, but it is insensitive to go out and buy her a friend straight away?

This is pretty much how I feel and often wonder if I might get caught out one day too.

I think you have to do whatever you feel is the right thing to do. I am inpulsive and would have to go out and get another one straight away but everyone is different.

I'd hold onto that hope -- I wondered if you'd find any escapees when I read your first message. And no, it's not insensitive to consider getting more asap - it's actually the opposite - VERY SENSITIVE and caring to give Nugget the friends she needs.
