Popcorn
Woweeeeeee...I've logged on and used Freecycle today for the first time. http://www.freecycle.org/ What a brilliant idea! We've had a bookshelf collecting dust in our hallway for a few weeks and "Ooops, word censored!"ody wanted it. A friend came round yesterday and suggested Freecycle. My inbox was jam packed just half an hour after I put it up! The hardest bit then was picking somebody to give it to. There were some that just said 'yes please, thankyou' in an email and others that gave me pages of their life story and why they wanted it. What a brilliant site though. We were about ready to chop it up and chuck it down the tip, which I was not happy about as it's a good bookshelf - we just don't have enough room for it in our little house. The Dogmother
I love Freecycle Gina, and have got rid of loads of clutter on it. The sort of stuff like your bokshelf, that you don't want to take to the tip, but "Ooops, word censored!"ody you know wants to take off your hands. I try not to take anythng back, except for a wonder FREE, UNUSED dog crate, which will be brilliant if ever any of our animals needs confining. Cate in NZ
Gina, that sounds like such a great idea. Everyone wins Fabulous
bronze
I love freecycle. We had a perfectly serviceable futon we wanted to get rid of. Couldnt bear chucking it out but knowing someone else was making good use of it was brilliant.
Karen & co.
It's a great idea isn't it? I'm hoping to get rid of lots of things when we move back home, rather than just redistribute the clutter, if we haven't used it for 6 months chances are we don't need it karen x
The Dogmother
Great policy Karen!
AnnieP
Its brilliant! I get rid of manure through it regularly and also managed to find soemone who wanted all of our old UPVC windows which we replaced last summer. I recently managed to join the St. Neots one (come on all you locals in Cambs, its a really good one) and got rid of my parents WONDERFUL huge old oak dining room table and chairs for them, which my dad was going to chop up and burn!!!! Its a brilliant idea. I can thoroughly recommend it!
lozza_9
yep freecycle is fab but yes some emails are not very friendly so I delete them! also i search to see if the person has offered items of freecycle as well. some people just take and not give anything away. kannie
also i search to see if the person has offered items of freecycle as well. some people just take and not give anything away. That's a good idea: didn't know you could do that. I've given away several things. Funny but once a small TV got no responses, I tried again a few weeks later and loads of people wanted it! It is great to see things go to people who really want them. And good to have them collected!
Carolinep
We've used Freecycle quite a bit, it's a very good idea Strangest item I've seen offered was an "Ovulation testing kit", it got snapped up pretty quick!! Hope it had a happy ending for the people who gave it away & collected it
Snowy
I'm also a recent convert to Freecycle (in Leicester Gina!) Managed to get rid of all kinds of things out of the loft, and also used it recently to acquire some chicken wire to section off the flower beds from the ravaging chicken hordes! AnnieP
I guess it doesn't matter as long as you are de-cluttering your life at the same time! I am too hesitant about what to list.. I keep thinking, "Ooops, word censored!"ODY would want that.... so they stay up in the loft,/barn/garage/cupboard....etc
Cinnamon
I gave away a load of courgettes from the garden when we were over run with them last summer
ChookieCaz
I've also recently signed up to our local Freecycle website after someone recommended it to me. I've been surprised at finding others from our local church also already using it. So far though, I haven't actually advertised anything, but still intend to. The item on offer that surprised me most was a car!
theherd123
I have used our local Freecycle too - gave a washing machine to a young couple who were saving for IVF treatment It's a brilliant scheme

Tina C
I am a St Neots Freecycler Annie - I saw that table - I think you made someone very happy! No-one wants any of the stuff I have put on there so far but I have managed to respond to a couple of 'wanted' requests. We are having a bit of a clearout at the moment - we have 3 piles - Ebay, car boot and Freecycle. We decided that we would try and make a bit of money on some of our stuff rather than give everything away as we could do with a bit of extra cash. However if I see someone in need then I can't resist giving it away.
Helly Welly
I'm also a recent convert to Freecycle (in Leicester Gina!) Managed to get rid of all kinds of things out of the loft, and also used it recently to acquire some chicken wire to section off the flower beds from the ravaging chicken hordes! Glad you managed to get some Snowey! Annie, never worry about what you put on there, there is usually someone who will have it. If not, at least you tried to save the item from going t the tip. We are regular Freecyclers, (leicester as well!) and have found it fab. I usually chose people based on the tone of their email. If you want something though, you need to get in there fast!! kannie
If you want something though, you need to get in there fast!! Very fast on ours - things often seem to go within minutes, so if you aren't actually at the computer, and don't have each email sent seperately and immediately, you don't stand a chance!
