Roobaloo
I'm absolutely over the moon!!! I've just had a breakthrough moment with one of my new chooks!!! I went out into the garden to see if the girls were ready for bed and noticed Toph was anxious about something....then I spotted it...a little black cat was crouched in front of the eglu, trapping Suki!! I very slowly and quietly opened the conservatory door....so not to cause Toph to panic (they're still unsettled by us...we've only had them a little over 48hrs!!) and not to let the cat realise I was there. I got the door open and Toph had retreated round the corner....and I launched at the cat!!!! It fled at high speed!! I opened the back gate to check it was gone....turned, and Suki was stood behind me, staring at me....so I crouched down to her....and she did a lap around me, closer than she'd been before....then suddenly she leapt up onto my shoulder!!! This morning she didn't want to know me.....this evening, I couldn't get rid of her!! She refused to leave my shoulder and go back to the Eglu!!! I put her on the floor twice, she went in then ran out and jumped in my shoulder again!! So I've been sat reading a book for the last hour with a chicken roosting on my shoulder!! I had to be a bit firm with her and force her to go in the eglu in the end!!! Bless her!! I just hope Toph starts to come round now... madchickenlady
Aw! My favourite chook used to sit on my shoulder while I pegged out the washing. Every so often she'd crane her neck around and stare me straight in the eye. Very disconcerting!
batcatz
Ahhh, that is sooo cute. I'm jealous as mine jumps on my shoulder, but doesn't roost. You are v lucky. But be careful not to look at her when she is on your shoulder... a bit like parrot advice. haha Recently, Bianca jumped on my shoulder. She stared very inquisitively at me, then pecked me in the eye! Luckily, my reflexes were good and I shut my eye v quickly. When I first got her she accidently hit me with her wing and gave me a puffy eye. Hence the name Bianca. (from Eastenders).

Roobaloo
Thanks everyone!!! At least you all understand my excitement....I've been telling people at work and received some very strange looks and comments!!! Thankfully my eyes survived!! I had a pre-warning as she 'investigated' my hair, my ears, my clothes...She then turned and looked square at me....so I think the eyes would've been next for investigating if I hadn't turned away!! But when she settled down and started to go to sleep....I think my heart melted!! I did try to take some photos but could only use my phone....which is useless...so all the pics are really dark and hard to see clearly!! She has completely accepted me...she came straight out the Eglu this morning (last two morning she's refused to get up 'til late morning!!) and been completely unfazed by me walking about. She wasn't bothered when I had to catch Toph to check her over...and now I can just walk up to her and stroke her!! I hope Toph will start to come round too!! Roobaloo
Well, I decided to try and make use of the chickens roosting nature to befriend my new girls again...I sat in a chair just inside the conservatory...and not only did Suki leap onto my lap (then clamber onto my shoulder) but so did the shy and reserved Toph!!!!! She first stepping into the room and jumped onto a raised dog/cat bed next to me....before making a huge leap straight at my face!!! She eventually made her way to my shoulder, which upset Suki, then ended up in the hood of my sweater!! I finally asked them to get down and Toph very graciously walked into the Eglu....Suki jumped back on me twice before taking the hint!! PHOTOS!!! (My hair is a mess as they both had spent five minutes 'investigating' it!!)
