BVA advice re pets and volcanic ash ...

Recommended Posts

Mine is covered by a roof but no sides, that will ahev to be sufficient or they will roast :? I've noticed the car windscreens are very dusty, but that could just be the drier weather :? I think it's only a concern if you get the sulphury smell (I'm sure if we get rain it will bring plenty down with it!)

Just told OH that I was moving the chooks inside..his response "What all 12 of them!?" :P

:shh: Don`t tell him but it is actually 15 and that means I have three in hand!!!

But on a serious note thanks Snowy for posting this...TBH I hadn`t even considered it. Our cars were dusty yesterday but I had put it down to the dry weather  WIR and Cube run both have covered roofs so fingers crossed this should be sufficient.

My usually wheezy (damaged air sacs) ex bat has started sneezing, and now is in more than a little trouble. Coincidence?

lots of asthmatics also struggling. Are sensitive people more likely to noticre?

thanks for posting this

Yeah the more sensitive people and animals are more likely to have problems. You may want to put her somwhere sheltered from the ash.

We still have the winter plastic corrugated sheets on the Eglu run and the WIR for the youngsters has a roof too. According to the map we are under the cloud all day today. I haven't noticed any smell or ash though. It was very hazy yesterday and although it dawned bright and sunny this morning it is now quite cloudy and dark.

I too didn't associate the dusty cars with volcanic ash  Not had any eggy smells, so it can't be too bad here. But I have had itchy runny eyes and nose and lots of sneezing for a few days now, and put it down to hayfever. Bought some antihistamine today (a different one to the one I usually use and made me so tired I had to have a nap  ) to help, but if it's down to the ash, then that won't help :(
