Plum
Each to their own. I love my cube but respect those who have sheds or whatever. Shame others aren't as tolerant. I guess most people on here who have an eglu choose it partly because of funky looks and why not if they can afford it. Nothing wrong with a shed but shame some of them mock others choices. There are positives for different choices but if I had the money I would choose a nicely made wooden coop over a shed for the garden but in a field I may well be happy with a shed. ross81
Totally agree Plum. I have both wooden coops and omlet coops and like both.
The Dogmother
another re-run of the Practical Poultry saga Best leave them to it.
chicken bark
I agree. I don't understand why one type of house has to be 'better' than another. All types have their strengths. The important thing is the health, happiness and safety of the hens surely.
chick wiggle
Its shocking how blinkered and set in their ways some people are! I have both an eglu (and a cube) and a wooden coop, and i know for a fact both the eglu and cube are much easier to look after. I also prefer the look of them. As said before, each to their own I suppose,
Torrin
Oh my, can't believe how vicious some of those people were! Am very happy to be part of an open minded and accepting forum
Lewis
The same thing happens everywhere ... don't knock it 'till you've tried it. I did read someone had rat damage to the nesting box hole and killed a hen + moaning that Omlet wouldn't replace the eglu and hens
Jools
I think you'll find opinions at either end of the spectrum on all forums tbh, especially when it comes to poultry.
Seagazer
Nice to see it was a well balanced thread - not I love the fact that even though we are on an Omlet site everyone's open to all types of housing. Has the person who wrote about the plastic shattering ever actually looked at an eglu/cube in real life do you think
Jools
I love the fact that even though we are on an Omlet site everyone's open to all types of housing. If only! I've seen some comments here on different types of housing that have made my eyes water. I say each to their own - my only concern is for the health and well-being of the occupants. Chucky Mama
Absolutely, each to their own. It is very useful to bounce ideas of others and to get other people's opinions. However critical Omlet forum members may be about other forms of chicken housing and bear in mind not all members own an Eglu or Cube, we would not accept that level of trashing of other forms of housing that has been allowed on that forum. I have seen plenty of topics on other forms of chicken housing here. There was one recently that I will try and find to illustrate this. Someone did comment negatively on this particular housing and someone else came on to say they had one and how great it was. I doubt any eglu owner would feel comfortable doing this on that forum. edited to add the link to a thread which did admittedly start off very negatively about a Solway chicken house viewtopic.php?f=4&t=62097&p=923484&hilit=solway#p923484 but you will see that people did feel that they could enter the debate and defend them. Overall a healthy Omlet forum debate
Seagazer
Okay I got it wrong, most people don't comment in such a negative way It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things.
ISCA
There are certainly poultry keepers out there who are not fans of the Omlet hen houses! I decided they were not for me either, for several reasons (which i won't go into now), but I have no doubt they do suit many peoples needs, have some distinct advantages over wooden coops and they have helped revolutionise garden chicken keeping in the UK. Open debate is great but some folk have vociferous views and the tone of peoples posts is not always easy to interpret in the written format. This can cause (often unintentional) offence. The Omlet forum is a very calm and relaxing one in comparison to many internet forums I have been a member of over the years! It must be the calming effect of our chooks I guess And I certainly do not feel discriminated against for not having an Omlet house for my chickens

Woodcat
People are so silly sometimes. It's not a very good idea to go bashing something when you can't actually back up your facts and haven't even seen what it is. People need to learn that it's fine to criticize but you need to actually know what your criticizing. Oh well ignorance is supposedly bliss. Jools
I couldn't agree more Woodcat. You won't find a critical post on any forum about the Eglu or Cube from me, even though I've only ever had (and will have) wooden houses. In fact, I've referred lots of people here over the years when they've met with negative attitudes elsewhere. My comment yesterday wasn't about any particular thread Chucky Mama, in fact I hadn't read that one before. I've rolled my eyes many times in the five years I've been here when I've read that wooden houses smell and red mite are inevitable, but I've rarely commented because I'm well aware of the strength of feeling. It's a bit like United vs City really (except I can't stand football lol).
