Do your girls come in the house?

Recommended Posts

Okay.

Today it was quite warm, and the girls were sunbathing. I opened the door to let some fresh air in, and Betty came toddling in, followed by Jon and Edward! This wouldn't be a problem, but they eat cat food, and the meat left on the side for the cats, is also gone. I love my little girls so much, but can't stand cleaning a cream carpet after them.

Here is a picture of my little monster, Betty/Boo/Betsy. She is special, friendly and, i shouldn't say this, defiantly my favourite. She lays every single day without fail, never stops, huge eggs, too. And her wonky beak is just adorable.

I'd love to put a nappy on a chicken. I have them in the kitchen sometimes, although my mum hates it! I'd also hate curry pooh on my cream carpet! I think my mum would kill Betty!

I wish they could be litter trained, it would make cleaning out the coop alot easier! :D

Mine used to when they were allowed to freerange ( they haven't since we came back from holiday and I discovered I actually had plants in my garden :o:lol: )

Try one of those bead curtains fixed over your door, mine couldn't figure out how to go through it.

just avoid the plastic strips! our love to pull at them until they pull them off and try to eat them whole!

Haha! Thanks but I guess I'll just close the kitchen door (they go through the back door into a utility room, that's fine)

I spoil my hens. No wonder they know where the food comes from! For breakfast i gave them Home grown rhubarb topped with yummy Apricot and Peach yoghurt mixed with juicy meal-worms. Now they've just had sausages (about to go out of date) with the last bit of sweet chilli sauce. As you see, i spoil my hens, but there happy and healthy, thats what matters, right? :D

Mine come into the kitchen---they know that's where the grub is! Isla actually jumped up onto the worktop today but this sent the dogs berserk and all hell broke loose! Lady Jane wandered into the living-room today as well but the dogs politely escorted her out again before any poos occurred!! :D:D

Mine come in given half a chance. They're not allowed, but they hang round the back door waiting to rush in if I open it even a tiny chink. They also sit on my husband's bike which is parked against the patio doors so that they can watch what we're up to through the windows. Naughty (but funny) girls!

Mine aren't allowed in, but on the rare occasions where they let themselves in through an open window or door I tend to leave them at it for a while. In saying that I have tiled floors throughout downstairs, so do not lose sleep if they poo.

Rose, my white star is usually the ring leader when they break in, and will often eat the cats food

I trained mine to come into the kitchen so I could pop in to make a cuppa when supervising freeranging. Bianca comes right the way in, followed by Dotty who stands just inside the door. The other two wait outside near the door. I'm not sure if I've done the right thing. I've found B standing in the cat litter tray in the next room and she also explores the bathroom.

It's a real pain when I go outside again as I have to collect B, then all 4 chickens try to trip me up. Yep I trained them with food. It didn't take long. Oh and no carpets. laminate and tiles. :D

I generally don't let mind come in but as they free-range in the garden if they ever see that the gate is left open (they almost always notice straight away!!) they will be in the house like a shot, sometimes i dont even notice them going in there they are that quick! I even found them trying to make they way up the stairs once :lol:

A Babygate!

It fits perfectly across the back sliding doors, and stops the monsters from getting in.

They are in like a shot otherwise, and the hide under the dining room table! We think it's because they see their reflections in the window from the outside, so try and come in to find the strangers hiding indoors...
