Cinnamon
I have a 4 week window starting this Friday when my spare Eglu & run will be standing empty between guests. Long enough to get 3 more hybrid hens, quarantine them & merge them with my existing 6 hens & cockerel,do you think? If not,it will have to be in the spring of next year,& NONE of mine are laying any more Have already phoned the chicken shop & they do have in stock the hens I am looking at getting (White Star,Blue Bell & something red!) Plus the window starts on Friday........I have 'guests' until then! Still wanting some practical advice as to whether 4 weeks is do-able
chicken bark
It sounds doable but I guess you never know how it will pan out. I'd go ahead.

beach chick
oh 4 weeks is definitely doable. in fact, if you got the first newbies integrated in 2 weeks, you could squeeze a few more in after that?!! assuming you have space of course. Christian
I would think 4 weeks is doable. If not, is your Hubby is a dab hand at knocking up a quick house for temporary accommodation? It's a no brainer. Mine are all slowly down and moulting. OH has mentioned the lack of eggs........maybe I should get a couple too?
goodinparts
Go for it...If by any chance it's not OK in 4 weeks time, by then I'll have a spare you could borrow til all was well, as I'm definitely not allowed any more hens til spring but will have got my girls moved into their ....Not on the doorstep, but not completely hopeless, given the M4. Toots
go for it!! as a back up i do have a that is not being used (chicken hospital spare) that i could lend you for a while if you need it (no run thought just the eglu) I am only in slough so close enough
chickencam
I would have thought that it is possible. Intros are hard to predict, but they should be integrated pretty well after four weeks. I am waiting until the spring before thinking about more hens @ Callychook and morehen disease. I have a classic with 2 older 3.5 year + girls and a home made run and house with five 1.5 year olds. I may have to face moving one of the older ladies in with the youngsters if either of the older girls leaves me, that could be interesting, but would free up the classic and it's run extension for more girls. I may even try moving them both in in the spring because by then I would think that my Pepperpot will have retired from laying, she has only laid a few thin shelled eggs this year. I wonder if that has any chance of working?
Old Speckled Hen
Still wanting some practical advice as to whether 4 weeks is do-able Surely you just need a week for quarantine? If you have a cockerel he will sort out the pecking order? I introduced two new hens to my five and he rounded them all up and sorted them out (and I don't mean in a fashion) well not straight away
beach chick
so come on cinnamon, tell all - have you been shopping yet??!!!
Cinnamon
Friday at the very earliest if I can decide by then. OSH,I am afraid our Indiana is a bit of a wuss as he was brought in to an established flock. Just because he's male it doesn't automatically make him boss, and he is well down the pecking order!
