ali-s
The snow has now stopped to be replaced with thick freezing fog. Nothing has driven on the road at the top of our lane, this is very unusual as the road is busy from about 7am until 8.30am with cars going to the RAF base and farm vehicles going about their business. I have phoned work to tell them I will try to get into work on foot but I will not leave until it is fully light. I have warned them that If I feel it is getting unsafe for me to get to work I will phone them and turn round and come home. I hate letting the school and the students down. Bothersome snow
Egluntyne
Snowing heavily here ... and the central heating boiler has conked out. Aarrrrgggghhhh! I thought it was more chilly than usual when I came downstairs this morning. Am typing with fingerless gloves on.

Old Speckled Hen
Thanks, everybody for your kind thoughts. OH got home around midnight, casualty stretchered off Bowfell, three helicopters tried to land but couldn't so MR took her to hospital as well as off the mountain. More snow here over night. Hope everybody is safe and warm and sorry Egluntyne about your boiler. Have you got a fire?

Egluntyne
Bad news about your boiler Egluntyne. Will your plumber Son be able to fix it? He'd already gone out to work before we realised it had conked out. Am hoping he'll be able to do something when he gets home.
Lavenders_Blue
Another light dusting of snow here this morning. The girls have refused to come out of the coop this morning, let alone the run. Also spotted what looks suspiciously like rat footprints in the snow this morning The blighters ignored my traps last year so can't imagine that I'll have any more luck this year, but will go out and set them anyway. Egluntyne - bad news about your boiler. Hope you can get it fixed quickly, brrrrrrrrrrrrr! OSH - pleased to hear your OH arrived home safely. It sounds like it was not an easy rescue. The Dogmother
How annoying Egluntyne, keep warm under that blanket of yours. I hope that YS can fix it when he gets back. No snow here yet, -6 overnight and -5 this morning when I got up, but was warm and toasty overnight. We have a thick hoar frost and very white sky, but no sign of snow. A fellow dog walker this morning told me that we're due snow tomorrow.
Cinnamon
The forecast is the same here - snow tonight maybe,& tomorrow The sky is so clear today & it is bitterly cold.

Egluntyne
How annoying Egluntyne, keep warm under that blanket of yours. I hope that YS can fix it when he gets back. He came back as he had been queueing for 45 minutes and had moved 50 yards. Plus, he had forgotten his butties. Anyroad up, all that was required was a kettle of boiling water to unfreeze the condenser related pipe outside. There was a plug of ice 2 m long. Despite the fact that it was lagged. It seems to be working now. Time will tell.
Lesley
I was just going to ask if you'd checked that little pipe - a few people had problems last year with the same thing. Glad it is sorted now. Ours is playing up but we know what the problem is and can usually sort it - we don't want to spend money on the LPG boiler as we want to change to wood or pellets sometime. A balmy minus 4 here when we got up - lots of water to take to the cows and sheep. We have one outside tap that is in one of the stalls and that will probablt still work. When that goes then we have to ferry water from the utility room. Glad to hear that your OH (all MR team) is back safely OSH.
Patricia W
It's minus 4 in Abingdon and thick frost. I'm not well, dog not well, ( she's a spaniel and most likely has eaten something horrid on her walk ) and got sick ex-bat, who has rallied enough to eat and drink and is now watching telly. So, I'm staying in - although may have to take one or other or both animals to the vet later today. At least it's only at the end of the road. The Dogmother
Still well below zero here. Rosie is on an inset day, so no school. She's at home, keeping the stove fed with wood No snow, just hoar frost being blown off the trees as the wind gets up. Everything is white and even I think my office is chilly
Peaches
Snap! I've got one sick springer spaniel too ..... Can't get to work as I'm on top of snowy, slippery hill ... snow has just stopped and the sun has come out and everything looks stunning but treacherous underfoot. Chickens v v bored and are sinking in the snow if they leave the pen. Fiona
Daphne
Do keep safe and warm everyone. The merest sprinkle overnight here, its only gone down to -3 and we keep having day after day of sun. I feel like I'm in a different country to the rest of you However, I am shortly to venture off to the land that heat forgot (Normandy) and Bruges where its been -6 during the day apparently

Mrs Webmuppet
It was snowing heavily this morning when I came home from work, the roads were pretty bad but it looks like there has been a bit of a thaw at the moment................it'll freeze tonight I expect. I am about to get on with cleaning out the chooks and to do a bit of housework............when I 've finished my coffee of course!

craftyhunnypie
Hubby just set off to Stafford..don't know what it's like there. No snow here today - but it's on its way tonight & I've come back from the business unit to cosy up at home. Might do a spot of online shopping to keep warm. Blimey, there's a lot of snow about in other areas. Please keep safe & be wary of slippery surfaces under foot. My dad fell on Sunday whilst helping my sister muck out the stables. Poor dad - he's ok, but it could have been so nasty. I worry so much about falling in this sort of weather. Remember if you are going to fall to put your arms round your head, whatever you do to protect it. Head injuries are so easily caused by falling & can be so awful & even fatal. Please , please be sooooo careful. Emma.x
