craftyhunnypie
Cleaning isn't good for the health! A bit of dust does wonders to the immune system! anyway. The decs & tree are down & up the loft now. Had a loft sort out & found the squirrels had done a bit of nest building & chewing in a few places. Grrr. Also found a wasps nest. Hubby is re searching on google before he moves it. Yikes! Will give the house a good hoover & clean tomorrow - today is Bank Holiday - no work! Cinnamon
Who else has had the annual 'oh darn it,there is one decoration still left on the tree' annoyance this year. Its always just after the decos have gone up into the loft
bluekarin
not yet but I am sure I will. Or its a hidden choccy, which is always a bonus!
Willow
You need to get a builder onto that. I can recommend the one that did my gutters
Olly
Emma, it's most unlikely that the wasps nest is inhabited - it'll be last years, that has been vacated. There's ALWAYS one decoration left on the tree, it's like that teaspoon that's always at the bottom of the washing-up bowl.
stoice
Decs won't come till the 6th (12th night) in this house. It's also a tradition of my OH to have 'Small Christmas' on the 6th (Meant to be the date the wise men arrived to worship the baby Jesus). Everyone gets another little pressie. meezers
Our tree and decorations came down this afternoon as well. It was a Frasier Fir and like the OP I was impressed by how well the tree looked, lost hardly any needles and seems a shame to throw it away. I like the idea of hanging bird food from it. Charlottechicken
I don't want to take mine down today as it's my birthday, so I quite like all the lights and sparkle. But, back to work tomorrow so I'll have to do the outside lights in the evening My tree is artificial though so just gets packed back into the box
Mrs Webmuppet
Our tree and decorations came down yesterday and are safely packed away in the loft until next year. The lounge seems strangely empty without the tree but I'm sure LMW will soon fill the void with a school bag and other clutter!
grracee
Ours all came down today, had to have a good house clean!
bigmommasally
Ours usually come down on the 5th (I always thought that was 12th night) but have taken them down today as back to work tomorrow Decs won't come till the 6th (12th night) in this house. It's also a tradition of my OH to have 'Small Christmas' on the 6th (Meant to be the date the wise men arrived to worship the baby Jesus). Everyone gets another little pressie. That sounds like a lovely tradition Stoice, not heard of that before.
stoice
Me either till I met my OH. Sometimes i just think my OHs mum made it up so she could prolong Christmas! She's a bigger kid than he is this time of year! LOL She'd open all her presents as soon she gets back from midnight mass if she could! Reikiranf
Ours came down today too, a day later than usual, even though my tree is artificial the floor looked like I'd had a real one thanks to my kitten climbing through it I don't think I've missed any decorations as I count them as I put them back into their boxes
poachedegg
Ours will come down on the 6th as well. Our decorations seem to have spread, when I was little in the 70's it was just the Living Room that was decorated - this year we either have a tree or some form of decoration/lights in the Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Hallway and outside! goodinparts
Stoice - my mum used to do "Twelfth Night presents" ostensibly from the Wise Men when I was growing up...I think the idea was to have something to divert me from the sadness of the departing tree...so I continued this with my children, always making the present something to do/read so it filled that same slot. Sadly they assume I am, at 50, grown up enough not to need it. Not so sure!
jill the potter
Tree & decs came down today, and the usual comment made 'it will only be a couple of months and they will be going back up!!' Strangely don't feel as nostalgic as usual, but did you notice that it didn't get dark as early today!!!!!!!!!! Time to start thinking of planting stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like being an optimist
Seagazer
We took ours down yesterday and I've just realised that I've left the painted glass Father Christmas hanging up in the kitchen window I thought the decoration I'd forgotten was the cross stitch Father Christmas in a frame which I saw just as we were putting the decs in the loft. Oh well, it will probably stay there now all year.
chickencam
I will pack away the Christmas plates and mugs today and probably clean off the spray designs that OH and the children covered the kitchen windows with, the widows needed a clean before they were put on there so they really need cleaning now I will probably do everything else tomorrow. I will kep the lights in the kitchen and hallway though until springtime, any extra light at this time of year has got to be good.
TheGirlsMum
Ours have all come down today, just waiting to put them up in the loft, that will probably happen when the girls have gone back to school tomorrow. It was amazing watching the girls ptting their playmobil advent calendars back into their boxes!!!!!
AJuff
I packed away kitchen mugs and decorations on New Years Eve. The tree came down NY day as it was dead! The worst tree yet. Hallway and orangery were cleared yesterday as I went back to work today and couldn't bear to retun home to a lovely sparkly house. I feel quite bereft today! All over for another year! Roll on Feb half term!
chuckmum6
We usually take ours down New years day, but we did it on Sunday. One of our trees, that was in the hall, looked like it had dried out the one in the conservatory lookks like it was freshly cut!
chickencam
Ours are all gone now, OH came home early and had them all down and packed away in the time it took me to cook the evening meal. We then spent all evening discussing holiday dates and what we are doing next Christmas
Egluntyne
Mine's down now. One of the few good things about Sheffield City Council is that they provide a service for carting away dead Christmas Trees, so that you don't have a skeleton in the garden which you never quite get round to dealing with.
