patsylabrador
I'm taking my decorations down today. It's hard doing this because I love my house sparkly & cosy for Christmas, but I do also love the house getting back to normal. My main reason for this post is to recommend the place where I get my Christmas Tree. We drive out to the Christmas Tree Farm in Chesham, and we've visited there for years. We've always managed to pick a full, bushy tree which is important to me as I like to put ornaments inside the tree almost hidden, like a forest. I think they might be a bit more expensive but I don't really know as I haven't looked anywhere else. This year's tree though is exceptional, I really don't want to cut it up, I can still run my hands along it or give it a little shake and no needles fall, and it's still fresh and green, I'm thinking of standing it in the garden and hanging bird food off it for a while. We bought it on the 9th so we've had the tree for quite some time. So, if you live anywhere near Chesham, give them a visit later this year, it's a nice place to be anyway, the staff are friendly and they have a horse and cart to transport the trees, prepare the tree for you and it has a happy atmosphere. Blackrocksrock
Sounds a great tree - I hate finding needles for months on end after the tree - but this year no tree due to snow and unable to go to usual place - I have the welcome light instead but will be coming down today with all the other cards etc etc.

Cinnamon
Did mine yesterday as I was desperate to give the house a really good hoover & clean up. I feel much better & fresher now its all done.

SarahJo
Ours came down yesterday - just as well really, as boys and I have just got up Next weekend the local hospice do a tree collection for a donation So the trees are recycled and they raise much needed cash

Olly
Started yesterday as I was suddenly sick of tinsel! The tree will be last as it looks so pretty with the lights on, but I'm like others here - want to have a good tidy up/clean and get the house back to rights. I'll leave the crib scene up until the 6th though as it's tiny.
craftyhunnypie
I took cards & bits down yesterday. Hubby told me off last night for the tree lights not being on. It will be coming down later & the knitted baubles & stockings ( xmas swap 2009) will be put safely away again until December. Ain't Nobody Here
I take mine down gradually so it's not such a shock . Some cards came down last night, more today .
Cinnamon
My house does look nice & clean & neat again now,but the tree did a great job of covering the nasty damp patch in the living room
goodinparts
Mine will stay put til 6th & I know I'll feel deeply miserable when it departs...I keep the crib up til Candlemas (end of the month) as that's when the official 40 days of church Christmas ends. What's hard is that once the tree has gone, it won't be two minutes before the offspring depart for uni once more , - and I do so love having them at home. Just as well I've chooks to pamper once the kids have gone...

ali-s
Started to take the decorations down yesterday. I wanted to do this boxing day as I was fed up of the Cats removing the baubles and bows from the trees and knocking over the Christmas cards on the window sills, however OH said I was being a misery so I left them up. The kitchen is now back to normal and I have noticed how drab it looks so I think a fresh coat of paint is needed, the same goes for the living room. chicken bark
Just taken most of my decorations down. Just the tree to remove - OH suggested cutting it up in situ but that will have to wait until this evening. I love a decorated tree but it is nice to get the house back - even if it does need a post Christmas clean. I got my tree from Stockeld Park near Harrogate. I've had one from them for the past 3 years and have never been disappointed.
Angie
I've taken mine down over the last few days.Had a good hoover and clean up. I just wish getting through all the jars and boxes of goodies was as easy, they clutter up my shelves and surfaces far more, at least i can pass the sweeties onto grandchildren. I have a table full of niceness which neighbours and friends have brought in and it is amazing how much there is . Apart from checking use by dates and putting aside any suggestions ? WitchHazel
Mine came down yesterday (2nd). We go to the Christmas Tree Farm in Chesham as well. It's a bit of a trek really, but the trees are always excellent. We prefer to get our tree quite late usually the around the 20th, and that means that there isn't much choice around here. I like a Fraser fir (good needle retention, lovely shape but very compact tree), and usually the only place who has any left by then is the Chesham Christmas Tree Farm. jlo
Hangover premitting, I like to get mine all down on New Year's Day. I don't like being back at work after the Christmas break and coming back and seeing the decorations up. I was surprisingly chipper on Saturday so the house got a decent clean up then. Trip to Ikea coming up tomorrow to get a sideboard for where the tree has been so I will have to rethink positioning next year!
abwsco
Oooh, I never take ours down until the 6th January. I do however move all the decs into the lounge though and have been doing that today.
bluekarin
I don't usually take down the decorations until the 6th but I think I will start today, and do the tree tomorrow. Will be sad as I so love the twinkling tree lights, but it will also be nice to have the living room back. That, and Mr Yo Yo will insist mid catnip mouse attack to pull one particular knitted Santa off the tree and attack it. The kids say he's a racist cat as it has a darker wool face and hands than the rest
Plum
My cats would have had it off the tree long ago Christmas is back in its box and it's taken me all morning to clean up but isn't it a lovely feeling. I found a mouse, 3 pieces of softie, a plastic ball, lots of peices of screwed up paper and a tape measure. Must clean up more often Suppose I better lose the christmas avatar
jlo
Suppose I better lose the christmas avatar Good Point! I put mine onto my FB page in December. Now some gremlin has got into my FB profile and I haven't been able to post my normal one back!
