Poached Egg
...came home with a Gold Laced Orpington (to be named), plus a Dutch Bantam (Holly) and Lemon Cuckoo Pekin Bantam (Penny) for the kids AND planning to get a couple more girlies later in the year Our desired chicken shortlist is getting shorter for a change. So very different to the hybrids in temperament! (note to self - change signature later) Edited January 18, 2011 by Guest

Poached Egg
The Girls came from Priscilla Middleton near Tonbridge, Kent, who advertises in the back of Practical Poultry magazine, but this may be a bit far for you. She was very helpful and knowledgeable with a good selection of breeds/colours.
Sageandonion
Thanks for that - will have a look later to see how far it is.
Poached Egg
Arghhhh! (Runs around like proverbial headless ) OH has gone to work and I can't find where he put the camera mutter mutter Did get some photos and lots of quality time with all 10 girls today However two now sport purple combs following vicious, unprovoked attacks from evil oldie(s) (through the wire) We suspect it was one of the lower pecking order old girls from what we saw later, much the same as during 1st intros last year and are considering bumper bits. Having said this, they were mostly fine, though definite 'odd' moods from some of the oldies. Just for the record I was the restrained one. OH the previous week "I want a Jubilee which will be available later in the year as will the chook you are interested in, but lets go look now" and OH Saturday "lets take a box just in case" - there was only one way it could end
Chortle Chook
...came home with a Gold Laced Orpington (to be named), plus a Dutch Bantam (Holly) and Lemon Cuckoo Pekin Bantam (Penny) for the kids Just for the kids? Good on your OH for being so keen
MummyHen
I think Orpies are just wonderful I have two buffs, two lemons and one gold laced - they are wonderful characters - the gold laced is a little shy I just love the fluffy knickers they have If we had more room I'd go for a Jubilee or Lavender or Chocolate Can't wait for the pictures
Donna C
Hi mummy Hen, couldn't agree more. Had ex-batts before and vet recommended orps. They are great and they make me chuckle everyday with their frilly knickere
Poached Egg
Photos at last - lots to make up for the delay!!! We let them out for some water and food in the conservatory for a bit while their quarters were put together. They didn't seem to mind! Holly - Dutch millefleur bantam (very chatty) Penny - (slightly muddy) lemon cuckoo pekin (chatty and thinks she's the boss) Louise - gold laced Orpington (very laid back but camera shy - need to get more unblurred pics of her) See we did let them outside! Daphne
They do look lovely! What a cute little pekin - I'm not surprised you came home with her!
Chortle Chook
Beautiful girls. Irresistible ! I particularly like Millfleur colouring. It seems to have the base colour of a traditional hen such as my Gran would have kept, but with the addition of beautiful extras
