Ain't Nobody Here
Clootie, I really hope you get some news soon . It looks absolutely terrifying, watching it on the news . Tsunami alerts being issued almost all over the world, it seems.
Valkyrie
Cloots! I hope they are alright. Chances are it's just the lines down at the moment. Hang in there little friend.

The Dogmother
I hope that you get through soon Clootie. Yes, heard about it on the radio this morning - shocking news that is a very active faultline and they get lots of small shocks from it, so a big one is unusual. Having said that, the 'ring of fire' is a very geologically volatile area.
clootie
Thanks all He refuses to own a mobile phone might come in handy round about now
Valkyrie
I guess there will be a few more along there - like a follow on from New Zealand. Hawaii is on alert - they at least have a time so they should be OK to evacuate there. Cloots - I think this will change his mind for sure. Geoid
All the phone networks (moblie and landline) are down in Japan, due to so many people calling. The earthquake has also triggered a Tsunami Alert for New Zealand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Hawaii, and others, with the Red Cross saying that the wave could go right over some Pacific islands. The earthquake was 8.8 on the Richter Scale, which makes it Japans largest earthquake and the 7th largest earthquake on record.

Geoid
Fred, do you know if my BIL is ok? Where abouts in Japan is he? Japan has very well practised earthquake drills, so most people in the major cities should be ok.
clootie
He's in Chiba, about an hour or so outside of Tokyo. There's a raging fire at an oil refinery there apparently. The Japanese are on the ball when it comes to earthquakes, tsunamis on the other hand ........
clootie
clootie you could try and send your BIL an email - I hope you hear soon have sent a number of them very early this morning ......... no comms at all apparently.
Seagazer
Clootie - I hope they are all safe. It is awful especially so soon after New Zealand. My ES just says to me that its because its nearly 2012, for such a laid back lad he can be really doom and gloomy at times.
Willow
It's horrifying. Our clock radio is OH side of the bed and he has the volume set at a level where I can't quite hear the news so I didn't realise until I logged into my email . I get email alert whenever there is an earthquake and they are still coming in every few minutes for the area all between 5.5 and 6 Mb I have a Japanese friend with a young daughter living near Tokyo I hope she is ok. The Dogmother
Just been watching this on Youtube And Most of the buildings outside major cities are wood-built and quite flimsy *No adverse comments when I looked
scarlettohara
So frightening, those poor people
Charlottechicken
The death toll is rising rapidly, such a shame. Buildings can be rebuilt, people can't It was shocking to see the tsunami and realise that the bits of debris were in fact buildings and vehicles.
