SarahJo
not sure whether this is due to hysterectomy and drugs - but it is driving me insane and sleepless Anyone have any remedies? Chucky Mama
I have a friend who suffered for years and then read an article saying that increasing iron intake could help. He has never had a problem since.
Bramble
I suffer with this if I am dehydrated, so make sure you keep your fluid levels up!!! My Mum reckons a good glass of tonic water works for her. Failing all else some paracetamol or similar usually settles it down!
Snowy
Sarahjo my legs felt a bit like that post op! Feel like I want to keep stretching them out and flexing the muscles - I think it's your body reminding you to keep moving to prevent DVTs! As above, make sure you are well hydrated, and do keep them moving, it should improve but speak to your GP if it doesn't. Good idea about the iron as well - could you be a bit anaemic post op? Jools
Try Quinine Sulphate - needs a doctor's prescrption. I have to resort to it when mine gets really bad, but I can usually keep it at bay at night by having an extra duvet or hot water bottle on my calves. Or I just have to get up and keep moving! You have my sympathies, it's miserable!
SarahJo
thanks for the replies - have managed to sleep this morning after some meds and breakfast. I thought about quinine and joked about having a g&t - last thing I fancy really, but might give a glass of tonic water a go tonight I have had restless legs when overtired before - but nothing like this, so will try to get rid. Surgical menopause is hitting a little now I think - as need windows wide open and a fan on
Bramble
I think the tonic water works (if it does) 'cos it has quinnine sulphate in it (probably haven't got spelling right there), but it has to be worth a go!!?? I can't tell you what a difference rehydration makes to me when I get it. Good luck, I am sure you'll find something that works for you! Lesley
I hope it soon settles Sarah.
Plum
It's horrid, I get a form of it when tired and have a drink, paracetamol and 20 mins on here works. Interesting what you say about dehydration hadn't thought of that. Hope it improves, bad enough to have to recover from the op. Is everything else going ok? Charlottechicken
Salt sorted my nightly leg cramps out (not the same thing I know!). I don't add salt to any of my food, nor do I cook with it, so I actually needed a bit in my diet. I used to put a bit of sea salt into my bedtime drink. Mind you, I was also anaemic, but the hysterectomy sorted that out too, no more night cramps now!
Jools
I can't remember when mine started, but I do remember being in endless meetings or on courses at work many moons ago and being driven insane by my legs! I used to have to make excuses to get up all the time as moving gave some temporary relief. I find that's the only answer when they wake me up during the night, so I come downstairs and do a few laps of the kitchen, or walk up and down the stairs a few times. Trying to ignore them never, ever works, which is a pain because getting out of bed when you're tired isn't fun, but thrashing around unable to sleep is worse. Do try either wearing a thick pair of socks, or having an extra duvet or blanket over your legs, or a hot water bottle to put on them. I find that if I can keep my legs warm enough, it tends to keep my RL away. It's a fine balance though, especially during summer! I don't honestly know if there's enough quinine sulphate in tonic water, but it's worth a try lol. I can only take the tablets for a few nights though, then I find they have no effect, so I try to ration them. Super Kate is a fellow sufferer and I think she found a natural remedy that worked for her - maybe try pm-ing her.
keyhole kate
I used to suffer with this I then read there was a believed link to anemia which I had previous to hysterectomy and for a short while after It simply stopped happening once I was well
SarahJo
thanks for all your replies. SuperKate PMed me too I slept better last night after one tramadol - but have headache from he'll this morning, legs seemed better too Physio friend has told me to potter a bit more in the day and I hope this is just post-op problem. Feel really bad for those who suffer regularly with restless legs - horrible Hot flushes so far not too bad - and wound healing ok, so in the bigger scheme of things cannot really complain Thanks again x
whoopsie
There are homoepathic remedies which work very well also - and they don't have any nasty side effects. Might be worth investigating. Hope you feel a bit better soon.
The Dogmother
A friend has this and also has 'sticky blood', not sure if they are related. She's having acupuncture for her restless legs but I haven't seen her recently to ask if it's working... will report back.
